Hi Gang:
I am looking for an affordable way to put some decent flooring in a new detached garage I am planning on building. It is a 24x36 wide garage so the square footage is 864. I like the look of the raised coin tiles but they seem very pricey.
Any suggestions are welcome!

Hi Jerry,
Don't know if you consider this flooring but the epoxy finishes on the concrete floor are very affordable if you look at it long term. It's the only thing that would work for me with all the activity that goes on in mine. If you just have it as a show place, that's another matter. Just about anything would work. I like some of the synthetic materials but they don't seem to be applicable for every area of the garage such as the kind used at the work bench for cushioning. Good luck on your hunt. WEK.

I used the plastic tiles that lock together. While it is easy and fast. They do not hold up very well in the long run. Also if you weld they melt. See pic.

I just put down Epoxy-Coat brand epoxy in my garage. It was not too difficult, floor prep is the key. You want a rough finish with no sealing on the concrete for best adhesion.

I put down epoxy coat 15 yrs. ago. It surprised me - it doesn't scratch when I drag heavy metal parts across it, doesn't stain (I have spilled a lot of oil, clean with cat litter which I grind into it with my feet). Has held up remarkably well. Can't vouch for the snap together tiles. They do look nice.

Epoxy is a great floor, However after I did an addition to my home & garage there is a 5 foot x 20 foot New concrete section.
Since it was a new pour the lime seems to be sweating and only that part of the floor is pealing the epoxy.
If I had known I would have sealed it before I painted the floor, so keep that in mind.
The rest of the floor is super tough and very cleanable. The tiles seem to be ok, but if I were to use them I would look for the recycled rubber for playground areas. I have them outside and they are indestructible, large & heavy, but $$$.
The smallest is 3/4 inch high x 2 foot squares.
If you plan on using epoxy, prep the hell out of it and run a floor sander-what a mess !! then degreaser-twice.

Hey Guys:
Thanks for the feedback. It will be new concrete so I need to be sure and prep it if I go with epoxy.

I vote for epoxy. especially if you plan on doing work in there.
