Has anyone put in a battery box after their aluminum was installed? Was it hard?

Two reasons....one, have my brake line right in the way and two (the big one) the track I'm next to requires a battery shut off on the rear of the car, so might as well have the battery back there. Just might mount in the trunk, not planning any big trips and I will gain some points from the wife if I save some money....lol

Lucky..I mounted mine under the trunk behind the pumpkin. I ran the 12+ cable from the battery to an external battery post (both + and -) on the back vertical trunk aluminum by the trunk latch. I then continued the positive cable to just below the left stop/running lights and mounted the ON/OFF switch there. Continued the pos cable up to the starter. You can ground the battery and the external neg battery post any where on the frame in the back some where. You'll need to cut a hole in the floor of the trunk to mount the battery in. Then use another piece of aluminum to make an access panel to the battery when you open the trunk. Many guys have done the same. Gives you more room in the trunk. Also, if you have already installed the pos cable you might think of changing it, if it's the one from FFR. The most common problem with many guys is the "hot start". You can avoid "hot start" by putting the largest battery cable you can find. I actually used a welding cable. It's about the size of the joint in your thumb. Good Luck.

This is one I had to think over and over again. I'm still wishing I had it both ways if possible. I put mine in the left trunk area behind and to the left of the diff. I had the aluminum in but not installed so I took it out after measuring for the 3/4 inch lateral supports. I cut it out with a cutoff wheel and electric shears. I think I could have done it in the car but it was a little more convenient and easy to get to (cut from what ever angle you wanted). I think it would have just been more tedious to cut it in place but doable. I was able to save a little ($0) by using the plastic box which I like rather than a steel one. I reinforced the box with two steel straps and fabricated a top for it. At this time I have a larger battery. I'm in a proration program so I am stuck with it until it dies out of warranty. At that time I will go to a Optima or something of that size and fab another completely flat top which will make it disappear into the trunk. It's also easy to run the remote posts and a track approved cutoff switch to the rear as Mike did. I just have the remote terminals now which are so convenient. I put the trickle charger in the trunk and hook up to the terminals periodically. Adding the track cut off should not be a big deal. If you plan on doing any changes to your suspension in the rear, think of where you want the box, exactly.
Good luck, WEK.
