View Full Version : Where to mount XM radio antenna?

About a year ago I put XM in the car. Originally I tested it by temporarily attaching it (with its own magnet) to the roll bar. This worked fine but the wire hanging down looks sloppy IMO.

I then ran the wire under the carpet and attached the antenna to my FM radio antenna that I have mounted behind the passenger seat. I pull that antenna up (over the passenger seat) when needed and collapse it when it is not being used. This did not work well at all even though the XM radio antenna had nothing blocking it.

Attaching the antenna to something like the top of the windshield is nearly impossible as there is no good way to hide the antenna wire around the perimeter of the windshield.

Where have others mounted this antenna?

I would think that most roadsters do not have a radio of any type installed in them. I will be putting one in my 33 and mounting the antenna to retract into the trunk. Sorry that I could not be of more help.

Have you tried just running it under the body? Optimal outside, but I have a home XM in the garage and have the antenna collecting through the roof, not window. Might be able to connect it to roll bar down leg and still pick up a signal.

In the trunk.

I mounted the xm antenna on the passenger side of the dash above the heater unit at the highest possible location between any metal frame obstructions. Seems to work fine.

I suggest a test before final body fitment.

Any where under the fiberglass should be fine. You could put it on top of the passenger foot box, if you don't have that area crowded by other things.
