I just got back from Atlanta Chassis Dyno. Since I had changed to the free flowing single sidepipes from Raptor Racing, I wanted to check the A/F ratio as I suspected that would change. My "butt dyno" was correct as the coupe picked up 42 rwhp and 10 lb.ft.tq over previous dyno pulls with the same carb and FFR dual sidepipes. Surprisingly, the A/F ratio was just fine. Final numbers were 362 rwhp and 376 lb.ft. The sidepipes have a much more pleasant sound as well, deeper tone and less harsh. I'm very pleased with the switch to the single sidepipes.

That is a pretty significant gain Garry. Good stuff!!

Thanks, Tim.
Looks like you are making good progress on the bodywork! Can't wait to see your beauty on the road.

Those pipes are a work of art.

Yeah, I agree ... Doug Marino at Raptor builds high quality, good looking pipes that perform very well!

Darn that's a lot of power increase! They must be great designs. WEK.

WEK,
The problem with the standard coupe exhaust is the small inner core of the mufflers, which I've been told is less than an inch in diameter. Might be fine for small cubic inch motors but nowhere near enough for my 422" Windsor. The Raptor Racing muffler offers a 2.5" core which really opens up the breathing capability of the motor.

Hi Garry,
I didn't know the old mufflers were so restrictive. I think that's too small even for a small block motor if you want it to breath. The Mustang GTs tube headers were tiny and I've seen dyno comparisons where just changing out the headers made a big difference. I bet the sound is much better, too!
WEK.

That is a huge gain. You must have noticed the gains right away.

Yeah, I could tell right away that there was a noticeable increase in power. Felt good!

Garry:
Would you mind posting some photos of this exhaust? I can't find anything on Raptor Racing's site. Does it come coated or bare? How easy was the fit?
You peaked my curiosity, since the blown 358 CI engine going into my Coupe made 600+ HP while on the Mustang. I definitely wouldn't want to restrict its exhaust flow. Thanks!

I ordered a set yesterday and the lead time is about 6 weeks so if you do want a set you should allow for some lead time.

Can you post their website? Thanks.

Here are a few pics of the new exhaust. I ordered mine in polished stainless, repackable. They make less expensive versions of this same exhaust. They don't have a website so give Doug Marino a call at 559-706-2226. They are located in Fresno, CA. Shipping from CA to GA was $67. and the pipes were very well packaged. They arrived in perfect condition. Doug has done quite a few of these so he knows what we need.
My mechanic did the install. His only issue was he had to modify the mounting brackets, most likely because my coupe is a very early one. One unusual aspect of the new mufflers is that they stay relatively cool on the outside, not nearly as hot as the original pipes. This is a good thing as the mufflers stand out a ways from the body and you usually rub against them while getting in or out of the coupe. The outlet tips are adjustable ... in the pictures I had them set at about 45 degrees down. Not a good idea as they tend to function as a yard blower ... I have since moved them to exit straight out the side.

Thanks, Garry. They look very nice, albeit a little bulky. I'll call him and look into it. Hopefully, I'd have the same power increase results as you did, and like the tone, if I decide to get it.

Carlos the other option is to use the FFR roadster pipes but this requires a different exit location in the body and roadster headers or Jpipes. If you get the body without holes no big deal. Garry's are a much nicer piece but FFR swapped me coupe for roadster at no cost

I'll call FFR next week, and see if they would be willing to swap out the exhaust. I got my body without the cut-outs, so I'm good there.
Ultimately, I'd love to do a comparison on the dyno between the three headers, if I could get my hands on the Roadster's and the one from Raptor Racing. Whichever would yield the most amount of power and torque, and the richest sound, would be the one I instal.

What's wrong with building your own? That's what I did with 4 mufflers with larger diameter interior, sounds great and not as raspy or loud as the originals. Lot less expensive too!! Seems to make more power too, however not yet registered but have 6 miles on the odometer from around the neighborhood. Had them ceramic coated in white. I think Tim Potts has a photo of mine in one of his threads.

Pictures, Bill; pictures. I'm open to suggestions and options, but I don't want to keep hi-jacking Garry's thread. Sent you a PM, Bill.
