View Full Version : Interest Check: Fender Support

Some of the early chassis did not come with build in supports on the frame to mount the rear corner of the front fenders where the fender, hood, and windshield surround all meet. The later chassis (don't know the cutoff point) have an additional piece to mount the fender too. I made a set of standoffs/mounts for myself and RM1Sepex.

Gauging interest to see who doesn't have the build in supports and would be interested in purchasing a set. Based on similar quotes, estimated cost is ~$30. If there's enough interest I'll get actual quotes and offer them up.

Photos are of my early prototypes on my car and have changed a bit since then, but for the best reference, here they are. I've made changes to bring cost down and make them easier to assemble.

so, we know for sure that the new chassis have the right stuff and won't be needing those?

Yes. I've seen a photo of the updated chassis. There are three versions I'm aware of. One is mine that required the hood pin extension from FFR, the other had the correct hood pin position but no fender tab , and the final one has the correct pin position and a tab to sit the fender on. No idea what chassis numbers have what. Some Instructions were sent out telling how to mount the hood pin offset brackets in case your frame doesn't have them.

cool thanks, another one of those that makes you wonder why the hell it would take 3 trials to get it right.... :)

Mechie-
What is the ETA? I will need these very soon, or I will have to make my own.

I'll put the order in Monday. The shop making the plates is pretty quick and often gets me parts within a week sometimes two.

Perfect, thanks. I will definitely take a set then.

Hey Mechie- Looks like I'm a lucky one. I already have the fender supports/hood pin on there (I never paid attention). I'm chassis #44 if that helps.

Thanks. That has the hood pin mount but no fender support. The fender sits above that part a bit. I'll post a pic when I get to work.

Here is a portion of an image of the latest FFR frame. This is the third revision. The notes on it are pretty self explanatory. You can see how the fender mount stands proud above the hood pin mount. I'll have to measure my frame tonight to see how tall my hood pin mount is relative to the frame and see if that dimension has changed at all to compared to Chad's.

I have a set of 10 of these on order. ETA is set for 2 weeks from today, though their second laser isn't booked so they'll likely finish earlier.

Hi Craig, my chassis has the supports pictured in post #18, missing in the photo in post #15, so I guess I don't need them. So, assuming a consistent build by FFR, it looks like this got rolled in somewhere between Chad's (#44) and mine (#52).

Hey Craig, I'm wondering if you could do a 1/4" hole in the hoodpin mount to work with my Quick latch setup? If it's a pain, don't worry about it. Thanks.

The hood pin mounts come from FFR. You should either have it as part of the frame like chad or a separate add on piece from FFR like mine.

I just saw this- Yes- you are right. I do need a set. I'll send you a PM

Got it. Parts were put in the queue yesterday. The laser shop got really busy and since they do my parts at employee pricing (even though I don't work there) they sometimes need to bump me.

Parts are getting cut this weekend or Monday.
