Not the Harbor Freight tool. Mine broke on the 7th rivnut.

My HF broke too. Got a blue one from Menard's for $20 and has lasted for over 100 so far. Still hard to squeeze but works.

I also got mine off Amazon... takes a hard squeeze, but can get in tight places and has held up well:

does anyone know the thicknesses of the square tubes FFR used to build the frame. I am looking at rivnuts and the thickness changes around 1/8" or .130" there is an area in the front the end is exposed, i guess i could assume all tube thicknesses are the same but i want to riv nut my rear interior firewall and an added one in behind the gas tank. have people had good luck with the ones for 1/8" max material thicknes?
Thanks,
Doug

That's what I used for that very purpose, Doug. The mid-grip range for commonly available rivnuts is, as I recall, about 0.12 to 0.165. You can neasure the thickness of the cross pieces of the 818 chassis where the ends are open on a few of the crossmembers. Am happy with the firewall installed in that fashion.

After I broke the one from Amazon on the first box of rivnuts, I bought one from McMaster-Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/#rivet-nut-installation-tools/=sjbyyv
It's a bit more expensive, but it's built to last.

Well, fingers crossed on my harbor freight rivnut tool. I've almost finished the rivnut box and still going strong. The smaller sizes stripped rather quickly. Still, I inherited it, can't complain if it does go.

On a related note: I use an Irwin "Quick Grip" squeezable clamp to help me pull steel rivets and nut-serts.

I have a decent grip, but it's all I can do to pull a 3/16" steel pop-rivet. With a standard tool it hurts. I think I had one with longer handles once upon a time.
I just do what I can do with my hand and then I put the Irwin squeeze clamp on the ends of the handles and it is pretty easy to squeeze with it. The ends of the Irwin clamp are soft so they never slip off the ends of the handles.
