It could have been much worse. Here is his story and the pictures of the damage. The 33 is fine, if you don't count the hitch.

Was leaving the Escondido CA car cruzin grand event last week. Stopped at a red light when BANG. A Honda accord and a Nissan Titan hit me in the rear. Crushed the bike and shoved it part way through the teardrop trailer. The good news---E Hansens trailer hitch broke at the small upper mounts but not the big mountings, this let the hitch rotate down and grounding the hitch with trailer attatched stopping with 1/2 inch of space between the trailer jack and the 33. Not one mark on the car.

Wow, That must have been quite a smack to have bent the draw bar like that along with popping welds. Too bad about the Cycle, too. The trailer diamond plate doesn't look like it's going to straighten very well, either.

As you said, it could have been far worse.

I'm glad everyone is okay.

Wow, I'm glad I shipped you those bars way back! They shouldn't broken like that but it looks like they took quite a bit of force before they did which bent the drop bar. But, had they not, I'm wondering if you would have had frame damage with a hit like that. I always knew it would bend there but after what the hitch gave up I'm happy with that. Sorry to see the bike took a serious hit.

Eric - you're supposed to say you totally did that on purpose. Seems like it was the best possible way for it to have failed and likely prevented damage to the frame as you mentioned.

Glad everyone is okay. Maybe the next improvement to the trailer is a ridiculously large high mount 3rd brake light!

Thought about it. :p

I had the same thought and was going to pat you on the back for the 2 crumple zone design.

It's too bad it happened but now we have some test data. I'm probably gonna modify my exhaust so I can use one of your hitches.
