Hey guys, so those of you who have read the paint idea threads know that I'm planning on playing up the 818-Subaru connection with a blue and gold scheme etc. Today I came up with this as a potential decal/badge. It's 818 in the style of the STi badge. Still rough, but just wanted to share...29274

that's pretty sweet. i've been toying with the idea of 818 logos using the WRX font.

Cool! I did something similar; I combined the FFR logo with boxer pistons. I used this to cover the IMPREZA on my instrument cluster, not sure where else I might use it:

Oh, man, that just gave me an idea...how about a silver badge in the WRX font that says FFR instead? Might have to work on that...

Nice design! The boxer logo is sweet too...

I like both designs, very well done.
I am an old-school kind of guy though, and the hot pink color kind of kills it for me. I'd love to see it in a FFR blue though!
Best,

It's not pink, it's Cherry Blossom Red. Not pink, cause Subaru says so.

Would you be able to have that in any diameter? Im looking to replace the one that is currently on the horn button.

Haha, blame Subaru for that one. :p here's the reference...29291

I really like that too! Do you have a pic installed by chance?

Thanks; I printed it at VinzDecal. Here it is in the cluster (it's a bad pic, but the only one I have). I signed a trademark use form with FFR to use the image only for my own purposes, so I can't share the full res version, unless approved by FFR.

If you are TRULY old school, then you would know pink was SOOOO in during the 80s!

That's funny. I always thought cherry blossoms were pink. My bad!

Thanks for the compliments, all. You guys inspired me into some serious procrastination/818 daydreaming today, and I think i've got almost all my design scheme ideas down, which is funny since my 818 is still a ways off.
anyways, since I again feel like sharing, and my wife just doesn't understand, lol, here's what i've got...
so, the theme for my 818 is going to be "alt-REX," as in a WRX from an alternate universe, so everything will evoke/imply subaru without, upon closer inspection, actually claiming to be subaru. for example, it will have a blue/gold paint scheme, but it won't be 1:1 -- it won't be WRB, right now i'm thinking a lighter/brighter blue, with a dirtier yellow, kinda like: 29311
Then, with regard to the badging, (and this is where i really wasted my day today, lol), we've got this so far: 29312

That's well thought out. I think it will work.
Question: What font is the WRX badging?

thanks, xusia. I don't actually know. I just pasted a WRX logo into ms paint, cut it up and then traced over it. Actually making it will be a different animal, lol. Man, I can't wait for affordable home 3d printers :)

And there is always this as an approach ... apart for the obvious breaches of trademark!

I have a 3D printer. Shoot me the file, I'll try and covert it/print it.
EDIT- I see it loaded a larger file when clicked. I'll see if I can do it for $hits & giggles.

Here is your design in the flesh. Just a rough print. Took about 25min to print in medium detail. I can scale it to different sizes. Can you make an "R" on the end? That would be cool :)

Chad-
That is very cool. 3D printers look pretty awesome. Awesome job on the logo.
Thanks for sharing.

Dude, that awsome! I did not expect anyone to do that. The internet is an amazing place, huh :)
Sure, I could play around with 818R...would have to deviate more from the STi source material, but might look cool regardless!

I should really get back to work, lol, but I played around with a few ideas. Most of them I didn't like all that much, but this one may be worth more time...I also had an idea for altering the Subaru oval-and-stars logo, but that will have to wait for another day....

Pm me your address- I'll shoot you one in the mail. It is your design after all.
I scaled it a little bigger than the above. Keep in mind that some parts of the emblem are "loose" once I pry them off the heating plate. They will have to be spaced by hand and glued/taped down. The slightly bigger version takes about an hour to print (high detail setting-ABS plastic). You can paint it any color you want.

I want one when your done. Flatten off the rear side, a little 3m tape cut to fit and you got a sick emblem

The back side is super flat since it is on the heated build plate of the 3D printer. You would just need the tape.

very cool. you are on to something with the 2nd version of that "R" design, I think. Maybe just trail the leg of the R down below the baseline of the rest of the logo.
I would probably be in for something like the original version that was made above if you decide to sell them. (I'm doing the S - so don't need the R designation and I don't think adding the S for the street version is worthwhile personally)

PM sent. I hereby donate the design free to the internet and claim no trademark or copyright in it. However, given that it is a derivative of Subaru's work, I do not advise commercial use of it and such use will be at the seller's own risk.
I have no idea if that statement is worth anything, but sounds good to me. :)
Thanks again, Chad. I hope you don't get too inundated with requests...but, on the other hand, I'm pretty pumped by the idea of seeing my doodle end up on some actual 818's. cheers.
