View Full Version : Hang Body Upside down???

I've been looking at all the body bucks and ceiling contraptions on both forums. The ceiling solutions seem to be overkill due to the way the body is resting on the pads. Is thee any reason why you can store the body upside down? It would allow for a much simpler solution...less wood...and less weight hanging from the ceiling.
Thoughts?

I think it would work. Are you considering fabric straps like tie downs? There are two things I would include: a 2x6 which would act as a balancing bar (similar to when you lift your engine with a hoist) and the 2x4 spreader that is put on the cockpit edges when lifting the body. That way there would be less chance for distorting the shape of the body while hanging. Good luck on your design.
WEK.

I would think the cockpit spreader bar would not work; hanging upside down, the cockpit would "spread" apart and the spreader bar would be useless unless you did some complicated rigging. My gut tells me don't do this. If you are bent on hanging from the ceiling (I do like the idea). Spread the weight by installing a 2 X 4 across at least 3 ceiling joists at each hang point.

I was suggesting balancing the weight evenly with the 2x6 above the body and using the cockpit spreader as a stabilizer in case it sprang when moving. Three points are better than just the 2 rockers. WEK.

I missed that; I see your point now.
