I'm almost at the point of installing the rollbars and there are a couple of points that concern me.
First of all, is there any alternative to drilling the point where the curved and straight parts join together.
If not, is there a reliable way to prevent the drill bit from slipping when drilling the curved chrome. My luck virtually guarantees that I will do something to scratch the chrome.
Thanks

You could wrap painter's or making tape around the area you intend to drill to reduce chances of the drill bit slipping.

Wrapping the area with masking tape will help. I'd strongly recommend center punching the drill location, starting with a brand new split-point 1/8" drill bit for your first hole. Then you can move up in size. You will need something larger than a 1/8" in order to have enough length to reach the other side but don't go with your final size. I drilled a 1/8" pilot to start, enlarged to a 1/4", used that to drill through and then drilled to 5/16" final. Another suggestion is that once you get all the way through with the 1/4", when you drill the final (larger) size, drill each side from the outside rather than going all the way through. Always use sharp drill bits and go slow.
Hope that helps!

Breeze also offers an alternative ...

It does require welding but also offers a more raked look and is not as tall as the FFR version.

x3 on the internal clamp from Tangent. I have it installed in my Mk3. It's a high quality piece (laser cut), works exactly as intended, eliminates the drama drilling the holes in the tubing plus eliminates the exposed "Frankenstein" bolt. Perfect solution. Just get the right one for your roll bar diameter (1-1/2 inch or 2 inch).

Has anyone tried to get on the track with these role bars??? I think I have heard that they weren't high enough.

Thank you for this. I looked at the site and the instructions. It appears to be a very straightforward installation. I went ahead and ordered it.
