View Full Version : Insurance coverage during build?

I asked my insurance agent about coverage during the build. They say that before it's registered, my homeowners policy will not cover the car. And before it's completed and receives a VIN number, you can't get auto insurance.
Anyone else tried successfully to insure a car during construction?

Thanks

Midwest classic insurance does it from what I understand. They are a supporting vendor on the other forum that many folks use. I haven't called them yet, but they are on my list of things to do

Covered under my homeowners until go-cart stage.

My insurance agent with AAA did some digging for me and found out they offer kit car insurance. I mailed them the invoices for the kit, engine, trans... other expensive parts and they insured it as a '65 cobra "in-repair". The cost was extremely affordable. I will check with Midwest when the car is driveable, but as of right now I'm totally happy.

I had Hagerty insurance for another car a few years ago and I seem to remember that they offered insurance for kit cars. From my experience, Hagerty was very affordable.

Give Midwest a call first as they have supported us for quite a few years.

Hagerty is a great company. Many guys around here use them for their collector cars. But I understand they don't write policies for our brand replicas, and also their insurance is intended for "...club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and even occasional pleasure driving..." but it's very limited. No driving to work, for example. Check Midwest as recommended. They absolutely know our cars and are very easy to work with. They'll fit a policy exactly to your needs.

Midwest does do it. Will cover before the car is drivable. My homeowners would not cover it once the build began.
