Getting ready for the paint shop. Any thoughts on the best way to transport/secure the body/hood for a safe journey to and from?

On the chassis is the safest way.

When my roadster was painted by Miller Custom's, Jeff had me bring down the body on the frame so that he could do his magic with all of the gaps. Left the body (and parts) in the line reaching down the driveway and taking the chassis home until called to pick up the painted body.

I took the car to the shop on the chassis and once the gaps had all been checked we put the body back on the buck for paint and transport back home (6 miles or so in an enclosed trailer).

Mount on chassis and mark all panels. Transport and paint on a buck. Without a full mounting on the chassis you will not get a "perfect" alignment anyway. Painting on the chassis will require a lot more masking (more time, more$) than on a buck.

The hood's not too big of a deal. It can sit on a flatbed or in the truck bed as long as you protect the back corners. As for the body, best is on the chassis. I would tow a roadster body cross country sitting on a flatbed but I wouldn't do that with a coupe body past my driveway.
