View Full Version : Paint holes on brackets?

We have many brackets provided by FFR. IFS brackets are an example.

I have noticed the inside of the holes (for bolts) is cut out very smooth. I was wondering when you decided to paint the brackets, do you also paint the inside of the bolt holes or you tape them?

Reason is, I don't know how tight the holes are to slide the bolts in, so adding too much paint may reduce the hole size and the bolt may not fit.

What have you guys done when you painted yours?

I didn't avoid painting the holes and found some bolts needed persuasion to get through. If I were doing it again I wouldn't waste time taping off the holes. A small tap on the bolts and it clears the paint out.

Excellent. So we should spend less time getting the bolts through than taping off the holes. I like that, much easier to paint.

tnx

I had all my brackets powder coated without masking holes; only a few bolts couldn't be persuaded through. For small holes that were an issue, I just ran the right sized drill bit through, I also picked up a rat-tail file drill bit which works well to open the larger holes a tiny bit if needed.

I also had everything powder coated. Sometimes a bolt will not fit, so I keep my Dremel handy with a thin grinding attachment. Clears out most holes in a few seconds, and removes any burrs or imperfections too. It came in very handy on the front and rear suspension assembly.

I wouldn't worry about it,but if not they make some little plugs for masking holes like those:
