I see a lot of photos of cobras and GTMs with a back drop of airplanes and such, so does that mean that GTM's can fly too?

I've seen the evidence and can tell you unequivocally that YES, GTM's can indeed fly.

What evidence would that be David?

Something like THIS!

Thanks Mike for posting. We ran Thunderhill backwards and the real turn 5 bypass has kind of a hump and quick descent which causes major air at 100 MPH.

I can't quite make sense of the pic, it looks photochoped.

If true, son of a *****, how many laps did you do in the air like that? Kida of hard on the car isn't it?

@Carbon Fiber: Awesome license plate. The fact that the North Carolina slogan is right above, just adds to the awesomeness.

fast: funny you should say that because I asked the photographer the same thing! I bought the disc from him with 8 other air shots. This one is the most air. It is natural going backwards at this track to get air in turn 5 bypass. you can see others at Head-On-photos website. In fact, On Mondays after our races, he puts the race photos on his website for sale.

That is just insane, did that do any damage to your car?

I have seen the evidence of Miata's trying to fly over GTM's!

Just page through and see the many laps of being airborn! :)

Here's a CTS Caddy trying to get all four off the ground.

No one, that I saw got bigger air than we did though. :)

How fast are you guys going when you leave the ground ?

Just wondering if you are going fast enough to make downforce.

@Carbon Fiber: Awesome license plate. The fact that the North Carolina slogan is right above, just adds to the awesomeness. It's not mine, but it hit the nail on the head.

GPS data showed about 75mph. Note RPM spike showing airtime and that launch and landing was uphill on elevation trace. It would take massive downforce to prevent this. Inspection of the car showed no ill effects or excessive shock travel. 28624

HA thats awesome data Jim. I personally LOVE data. yeah at 75mph there is not much you can do in the way of downforce to keep the car from taking off. Thats actually a great speed to be airborne. At New Jersey Motorsprts part there is a 'Jump' that is designed to unsettle the car prior to a technical section. When they ran Grand AM or other fast series they add a chicane to prevent folks from getting airborne. Same deal at Limerock. When we run we dont use the chicane at either track. Since the GTM is very near the performance of a daytona prototype I get very light over the crest at both tracks. We hit the crest at 122 at NJMP however and at that speed we are making lots of downforce.

Im going to check my telemetry to see how the vertical G load changes as we crest.

Thanks for posting the data and welcome to the forum.
