And what did the rest of you do Friday and Saturday?

Which one's yours?

I love the red/white one at the front with the hard top.

The one you write of is David's and drove down from NC

Mine's TANGENT (the "other" top)

Don...I still REALLY like that top you made and I still REALLY want one! I'm very sad you mothballed the project.

I see you are running it w/o the side windows - what is it like in real life usage (thoughts on having used it for a while)?

Thanks,
Todd

Despair not my friend. We're not dead yet. Intent now is to hopefully find interest in a local fiberglass company to make the panels. I'm thinking this will now be offered as a builders kit as a basic in order to keep the price reasonable. From there services might be ordered A la carte. Regardless, someone will have to have the skillset or access to someone that does. Something like this will never be turnkey due to fitting, finishing, painting, etc. My question now is, will builders still be interested? Having the panels/shape in hand is 80% of the challenge to something like this - very similar to how the bodies are now received from FFR.

This past weekend was the first real shakedown, spending two days on the road with it. I only have the T-Top latches for the closed position engineered and installed, don't yet have the mechanism that holds them in the up position. I'll have to say it was very nice to be out of the sun when it was overhead, but being able to take the tops off and store them in the trunk was very cool too when the sun was lower. We've had rain on both ends of this past weekend and even though I've never had this car on wet roads it was nice to not worry as much about getting caught in a shower. I'm just a bit disappointed in the amount of wind that still enters the cabin area. I've had thoughts for years that a back windscreen would make a roadster ride much nice, especially for those with long hair. But the reality is that the shape of our cars causes the wind to dive back in just in front of the rear flares and I think this creates a pressure wave that enters right at your shoulder - we have less wind than no top, but I'd say we've reduced the interior turbulence by about 60%. The good news is that there is essentially no change with the tops on or off. David's car, with the APE top has a set of half windows that blocks the wind right at his shoulder and his ride is wind free. So, that is good news about the side window parts which have not been installed yet, they will block that last amount and will give you the option of how much wind exposure you'd like at any time.

Anyway, stay tuned and hopefully I'll have some good news very soon.

And I have just noticed you have done all kinds of cool frenching !! Very nice indeed.
If only a hard top was available like that.

Don, I am absolutely looking forward to your good news! :)

I have an APE top and like it but I am very smitten by your design.

To answer your question: I believe builders will be interested in your top as a "builders kit". Even the APE top requires some assembly/finishing; yours maybe a little more but for those wanting that particular look it won't be a deal breaker.

Do you think you will still be at the prices you listed when you first started the project?

Thanks,
Todd
