The Warden and I were hitched on September 11th 1976 at Fort Snelling Chapel.
We're coming up on our 35th Anniversary and I'm looking for ideas and hoping for some input.
Guidelines;
We'll have roughly 1 week (9 days including both weekends).
Must stay within the continental US boundary
Prefer driving over flying, but may compromise.. Maybe even a train ride?
We would be doing this in August as she works at a school and it's very difficult for her to get time off..
We are both very practical (to a fault - really) so we've not done a lot of vacations - more Staycations than anything...
Thanks!

Randy, congrats on the 35 years. That is awesome!
Not sure I can help on the destination, driving from Minnasnowta, but I am thinking in August though there have to be some places on Lake Superior where you could rent a cabin for a week.

Thanks guys..... I appreciate the thoughts and ideas...
Steve - I did the vacuum cleaner for the 5th anniversary (no joke - it was the best self propelled Hoover that was made)... I was lucky to live to see the 6th anniversary and I think I am the only one that ever did use that vac... She refused!
Now I just kid her about it... Told her that it was a space-age broom and to just think of it as her new Motorcycle! Ohhh if looks could kill.....

I have never been but Alaska in the late summer is supposed to be stunning. One of my pals took a luxury cruise and he is not a cruise guy but loved it.
Go somewhere you have always wanted to go. Yosemite, Florida beaches (HOT that time of year), San Fran, Hilton head etc. In short ask where she would want to go and make the plans, just do not get practical about it. Put a ton of money asside and say WTH and do it all. I took my wife to Hawaii last year for our annivesary, spent a ton but had a blast. HTH, Richard.

I suppose I owe some sort of explanation - so I'll just give you the Cliff's Notes version....
First off - I have absolutely no issues with Canada...
When I came home from the service - I promised myself I would never again leave US Soil. I wiggled on that one time when we flew to Hawaii back in 86.. Yes I know that Hawaii is a state, but we were flying over the open (non-US) ocean to get there.. Now I choose to not fly on the airlines anymore as well...
I try my darndest to be a man of my word...
There's all sorts of nature, history and great things right here in the good ol' USA and that's where I'm staying and spending my money..

Based on your guidelines, I think I'd make a drive down through the Florida Keys. I haven't done it, but it's on my list.

You might consider Mackinac Island, Michigan. My wife and I spent a few days there last summer (celebrating our 20th). There are bed and breakfast places, or you can rent a cottage, or stay at the Grand Hotel - which is incredible. It's a beautiful island.

We spent a couple of nights at the Grand. It's expensive, but it's an awesome experience.

I have a GT40 in my shop - so I think I should be able to pop for a few nights there... :)
It would really be cool if we could take a train ride at least part of the way there... I'll need to check on that....
Thank you again!
