Thank you to the sube experts and the members that have posted about the Forester. You have saved me a ton of money.

I posted earlier that I am doing a mix and match build with a 3.6 engine. I have the engine, trans, and the megasquirt ecu from Wayne on the way. I also ordered new aluminum front lowers from Wayne.

I still need the uprights, all the body parts, and parts of the harness. After discovering here that the forester was a viable donor, I found two in my area with blown/removed engines. One is $1500 and the other is $600. I live in Subaru heaven but none are ever for sale here. Literally half of the cars in Tahoe are Subarus. I drive around pretending to rear end them every day. (joke)

Thanks again for the Forester hint.

Tim-

That's pretty cool that you were able to save yourself a few pennies!

Are you going to do the engine work yourself, or farm it out?

Good luck with the progress.

Regards,

Steve

I got the 2005 Forester X for $1300 and he is going to drive 3 hours toward me to hand it off. I now have an engine with probable timing belt issue and an automatic trans for sale.

I am going to do the 3.6 work myself. Per Wayne, I slap his harness on and fire it up. The 3.6 is a low mile 2011 model guaranteed to run. It was a rollover so I am confident that it is good to go. I will do a compression test and maybe try to fire it up on a pallet. I got the trans with the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.

Whew, I spent $8000 yesterday. I probably won't start a build thread until the kit comes so it will be a fast forward on the donor parts.
