289 Slab Slide

Sunday was a kick-off for the Arizona Copper State 1000. Lots of classic cars including 5 original 289 Slab Sides. I was interested to find not one had a reverse speed-o. When did that phase get started? By the way, one was powered by a 427. All had under body exhaust.

I had seen an advertisement for a Cobra with an automatic but I have never seen one in person until Sunday. Actually, it looked a little "cheesy" for such an iconic car but that's the way they came. So be it!

Reverse speedometers were introduced on the 427 cars

On the 427 cars. I wonder why the design changed to a reverse speed-o and what the advantage was if any???

I believe the reverse speedo was used to prevent mistaking the speedo for the tach
