Over the holidays there was a man ringing that ever recognizable bell, I was in a rush and thought to myself how obnoxious the bell was being rung. I did not pay much attention to the surrounding, only that my car kept warning me that the roads might be icy. My mind was simply focused on "I just had to pick up a few last things". When I looked toward that annoying bell I realized that this man, obviously a volunteer, was standing out in the freezing rain, ice frozen to his mustache, giving of himself for a greater good. Right at that moment I was overwhelmed, not at the task at hand but how inefficient I was as a human being? Part ashamed and part relieved that there are people like this man in the world. Don't get me wrong, I give well to charity and assist where I can, but in my annoyance I failed to realize how lucky we are to have caring thoughtful people to help those in need. There is a nearly 2 year waiting list for the 818. It is lusted after by many thousands of wanting and deserving people, there are also thousands of young adults fighting to remain the normalcy of every day life.

For those that do not know, Joe Mush and his son Ryan are building their 818 with the intension to donate it back to Factory Five for which it will be raffled off for charity. The Cystic Fibrosis foundation is near and dear to Factory Five and all proceeds will be donated to this worthy cause.

It is sometimes easy to recognize a dream realized, maybe it is a car builder that has spent a lifetime dreaming about, then fulfilling, their individual ideal of automotive perfection. For some it is raising a family or maybe building a successful business. For others their accomplishments are measured one day, one step and one hug at a time. For someone with physical difficulties, knowing people care can go a long way to easing pains. In our little corner of the automotive world, we are very fortunate to have a "bell-ringer" among us, the hugs being handed out are being done so one turn of the wrench at a time. Though Joe was reluctant to post something, not looking for recognition, I offered as I felt it important to let people know what was coming down the pike.

Joe will update this thread as the build progresses but the car is well on it's way. The raffle details will be worked out over the next few months however the car will be ready by open house. What had started out as 2002 WRX with only 63,000 miles will become a vehicle of hope rebodied into the form of an 818.

Very cool. Every time I go out to the garage and see the 818 I am reminded that I am fortunate is so many ways. Fortunate to have got on that preorder list early, and much more so for even having the opportunity to own it. Thanks for again reminding us of how lucky we are.
