Is there supposed to be a panel in the back of the trunk on either side? The instruction manual shows one in one of the pictures but never tells you to put it on. I searched my boxes and never got such a panel. Just wondering if anyone noticed this.

sorry for the pictures being upside down... hope you don't get dizzy

You have all there is already.

What you're seeing is something that changed early in the Mk4 model run. First versions of the Mk4 did have panels on the inside like the pictures in the manual. Later versions no longer used the panels. CraigS is right. What you have is all there is. There were other running changes in the trunk area, eliminating an earlier dropped floor above the fuel tank.

I went ahead and made a set to finish that area of the upper trunk. It just didn't look right to have the rest of the trunk done and not those 2 small sections.

thanks... I wonder why they changed the dropped floor?

Not so hard to put in a dropped floor. I cut the metal frame and dropped it, then made an insert to add about 5 1/2 in. to the floor next to the mustang gas tank. Put in an access cover to get to the sending unit without dropping the tank. I didn't put in side panels though, wish I had thought about it.

Another mod, I used hex bolt joiners (2" long) which were bolted to the rear panels, instead of the long bolts to mount the body. I then used all-thread to bolt the body using the spacers from the kit. I then put on a hoop bumper, with acorn nuts on the end of the all thread. I modified the license mount which was supposed to mount on the trunk, and mounted it and the plate to the hoop bumper. Looks like it should have been made that way.

Are you sure we're talking about the same parts? My Mk4 is #7750, and the parts in question were gone by then. The trunk sides, from behind the rear wall of the cockpit to around the inside of the body by the tail lights are one piece and on the outside of the frame. There is a small triangular piece on the inside near the back, but nothing on the inside behind the rear cockpit wall in the upper level of the trunk.

You are correct. From the spinning pictures I thought he meant the ones closer to the tail light

I made my own too. I'm using the mustang 4 link and quad shock set up and without the inner panel there would have been an opening to the wheel well at the upper shock bracket. I also lowered the trunk floor.

Since my MkIV is a street version with no roll bars, I wanted to hide the roll bar mounts in the rear of the trunk. I made a partition that goes across the trunk and attaches to two of the roll bar mounts. I covered it with matching vinyl and used a couple of screws with finishing washer to mount it in place. Makes a great little storage area.
