Lube Clutch Cable

My Ford clutch cable has just started making noise when hot. Is there a way to lubricate it or, am I looking at a new cable?

I have used a tool like the one sold by McMaster-Carr for motor cycle brake and clutch cables but I don’t know if it will work on a larger automotive cable.
