Indiana temporarily suspended personalized plates after someone complained when a cop tried to renew his long time "oink" plate.

Ohio decided to charge stupid amounts to renew custom plates. So I switched to standard. I understand a one time fee, but once the plate is made, there isn't any additional cost to the state to renew it. When they doubled the yearly fee, I gave it back. I liked Illinois' custom plates best. Free if you follow the rules, which allowed room for creativity.

I have a list of no less than 100. I have picked my favorite, but I need to decide on the next 3. Oregon has you submit 4 - in order of preference - in case your first choice is taken.

I'm thinking about "MECHIE3" for my plate.
I'm working on wiring now, but you probably guessed that.

818R and 818 R are available in Nevada.
There's also my favorite specialty plate here:
http://www.dmvnv.com/images/atomic.jpg
So I could get AT818R. The AT being 40% size.
The above three I would have to pay extra for every year. But in Nevada there's a 'secret' form to get a plate that was once issued and is out of circulation reissued to another vehicle (http://www.dmvnv.com/platesnumbers.htm).
it was once issued by the department, and one of the following:
the original registration has been expired for 18 months or longer, or
you have a notarized release of interest from the person who owns the plate.
So I might be able to get 818 RRR or 818 ARR. Cool thing is after the initial fee of $25.50, you don't have to pay an annual vanity fee. It's charged like any normal plate.

I live a mile from the Nevada border. I'm watching the new proposed margin tax law before I move my business over the line.

... turboner ... turbonrd ...
I don't see any thing wrong with having Turd Boner for a license plate.

And I got 818S in Alberta as a Father's Day present last year from my very thoughtful wife and kids!

I'm thinking about it... 'FFR 818' or '818S 52' or some similar combo. Never had a vanity plate before.
The best plate ever is the one that was issued, then confiscated in VA (http://jalopnik.com/5724684/virginia-dmv-revokes-worlds-greatest-license-plate):

Here's mine. It's going on my DD while I work on the 818. When it's done (as I understand it) I will be able to transfer it.

in ohio, you cannot transfer it unless you get rid of the original car.

"Transfer" is an oversimplification. I'd have to return them in exchange for standard plates for my daily driver, then apply for them for my 818. The clerk claims it will work in one visit to the MVA. But they've fooled me before.

I could swear I applied for FFR 8I8 (with an "I" in place of the "1") because FFR 818 was not available, but that sure looks like a "1" to me and not an "I"

It wasn't available when I checked either. Interesting. Maybe it's a lower case 'L' ;)
