Getting ready to powder coat and want to make sure we have all the panels and they fit correctly. I am looking for pics of the right and left side of the firewall. The side panel on the drivers side fits wierd and I don't like it. But the body may cover it? Here are the areas I am concerned with.

Although I have a Gen-I coupe, I think the areas are similar. The one big difference is the forward brace spanning the area at the top of the firewall. The Gen-I had a 3/4" tube that the firewall attaches at the top.
In the first photo, you can see how the body covers the area where the firewall hits the driver's footbox. I had a similar fit as yours, trimmed it parallel to the footbox and added a piece of bulb seal.

In the second photo, you can see a small triangular piece which came with the kit to close the ends of the firewall/dash area. The box covering my AC-Heater was home made.

Hope that helps,
Rob

Interesting how different the gen I drivers side footbox is from the gen II.

I sealed it with a rubber strip. I looked for a pic of the triangle that fits the passenger side, but did not find one. I had to remove it to route some of the Fast EZ efi wires.

Hey QSL, I have a newer coupe that also lacks the 3/4 tube that older versions had. How are you securing the top of your firewall? I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this as I would like to push the firewall out at the bottom to make room for the AC/Heater. Let us know what you are doing there! Thanks!

john, thats a great tip and will fix my issue with that portion. thx.

I guess I am not securing it? I think it just butts up to the body and stays there. We are using the Factory five heater AC setup and it fits behind there with no mods. Thats the plan so far anyway.

Thanks QSL. I have figured it out now, and yes, it does butt up against the body with some bulb seal.

Mike -
I am slightly hijacking this thread...... Jeff/CobraKai - I am considering bolting on a piece of aluminum tubing across the top as in the older versions. This would make that firewall piece a little stronger. Since I don't have a welder (yet?) I would use angle brackets to do the joints - this is not a structural or load-bearing piece, so that might work..... Meanwhile, JKreuger has solved the air conditioning puzzle a while ago.....

Hey Wayne, I talked to Kiki231 who has the same setup as us on his finished coupe. He said his firewall is extremely sturdy the way it is and doesn't budge at all. I'm going to leave it as is and hope it works out. I'm going to have to look up JKreuger's AC fix as I haven't seen it!

SnakeBit31 -
Thanks for posting that picture, I am fitting the A/C unit, and that picture really helps - The engine-side piece you added was the key to fixing my confusion. Even after modifying the front plastic "output plate" like Russ Thompson and CBergquist did - the A/C unit has to push into the engine compartment.

Thanks for sharing that. I will give it a try. If it is flexing too much, I have some 1/8-in. aluminum plate I can use to back it up.
