I have been left alone. My friend was supposed to come with me, his truck and trailer and get the kit on April 26th. But he can't.

Now I have to search for a truck rental for which I will have to review the rules in force in NYC and QC Province (Spring rules when it warms up in order to not cause road damage).

Does anyone know the weight of the FFR kit?
I know 8.5ft x 16ft in terms of size is enough, but I don't know how much it weighs.

And since it's a Canadian kit, there are deleted parts, maybe these save weight and space. But I'll go with worst case which is the full complete kit.

tnx

Can't help you with the weight Frank, but the crated kit fits inside a Penske 16 foot rental. The Penske has a flat floor, easier to handle sliding it in vs the Uhaul which is lower, but has wheel arches in the box.
I put 2650 lbs on my shipping documentation for the crated kit, because its cost was calculated by volume, so there was no point in going low on the weight, it didn't change the cost

Frank-
I definitely don't have a hard number, but I would imagine that without wheels/tires, brakes, fluids, engine, trans, steering, and with the packaging and such, it has to be at least 350 less than the complete kit, depending on options, etc.

So judging by that I believe with 500kg it's not way off track. I won't have a crate so I don't need to estimate the wood.

I sent a mail to Joe, he's out, maybe I'll know tomorrow.

Once I know I will post the info.

Call Factory Five and ask for Jesse Rhia. She does a lot of shipping.

I know I'd appreciate you posting your findings. I'm in the process of figuring out whether to ship it or tow it, and having the weight would help. I bet the estimate of around 1500 pounds is pretty close though.

I believe it is less than 1500 lbs, when I striped my 2006 WRX donor the shell was only 1040 lbs. So i took about 2200-2300 lbs out of the car. I would think there is over 600lbs
that go into the kit. Just my opinion. RLM

I was able to pick it up with one other person. I would say the frame and body cant be more than 450 lbs, and probably another 200 lbs in boxed parts.

Either that or I am really strong.

The lady at 291-3443 couldn't reach Jesse, but she asked around and got the info.

Here goes for the US complete kit:

- Un-crated 818 kit FULL with boxes (S and R are probably about the same): 1000lbs (455kgs)
- Crated 818 kit FULL with boxes (S and R are probably about the same): 2500lbs (1136kgs)

Dimensions for enclosed box truck for un-crated kit is 14ft minimum to walk around and attach tie downs, place boxes. If you have space over the cabin, that's good for boxes.
Recommended length is 17ft!
And 7.5ft wide is enough.

That's crazy... I don't believe those weight numbers, time for me to put the weights down.

840lbs. Judging by what you have on it that is not part of the kit and what's not on it that is part of kit, I believe 750-1000lbs for the un-crated kit at FFR sounds good. I agree that 1000 looks a bit too much, but in my case that's no problem, it's not enough to cause some issues, I just need to rent the damn truck and fly south. lolll

Longisland, it's good to know 350-400lbs for the frame alone.

I spoke to FFR about this a few months ago. The frame and body is 450 lbs and the boxes are 300-400 lbs. They said to bring a 12 foot trailer minimum (the 818 is about 10 feet with the nose removed).

Some more info from FFR:

7.5 X 14 should be enough for everything un-crated.
The 818 is roughly 8 boxes.
The frame+body will weigh about 500lbs.

I used a 16' Penske truck and had plenty of space to walk all the way around the car. We put the boxes in the front against the cab and tied them in, then tied the chassis and body in behind that. The only downside to using a box truck is that they often don't have floor tie downs. The front was no problem because the chassis is uncovered and it was easy to tie it down to the lower side rail. The rear was a little harder because it was hard to get high on the chassis with the fenders in the way. We managed to get it tied down fine though, it didn't budge the whole trip. Just make sure that you don't strap it so tight that you actually lift the chassis off the floor of the truck. I don't know what the weight was, but I know that driving the truck didn't feel any different between when it was empty and when the kit was in it.

We got 2 cars worth of boxes in the back of a full size van.
I estimate 60-80 cubic feet per 818 for the boxes.

One thing about Penske truck rentals - you get a very good discount if you are a AAA member and you book online.

I hadn't thought to mention that, but your absolutely right. The discount is a good deal.

My 16 x 8.5 trailer was very "empty" feeling, many of the boxes were slid under the truck's bed cover for the drive home.

I will go down with a 7.5/8.0x18 box truck. I guess it'll look so empty I'll have to buy 2 kits. :)
