Hi all, is the FFR supplied driveshaft length the same as the front ones that get taken off just with different splines on each end? A bloke has just mentioned he can get custom ones quite cheap but I said they were in the kit, free!!

The top 2 are out of a 06 impreza wagon.
The bottom 3 are from FFR.

Subaru publishes the length from clamp to clamp on the axles
06 Wagon fronts are 330 mm
rear are 348 on one side and 358 on the other side,
FFR axles are 335 mm.

5mm is so close. Could the stock WRX ones be used, then, if you wanted a slightly wider rear track (which you could theoretically do using turnbuckle-style lateral links)?

No, the splines don't match.
The splines on the wrx axles are not the same on each end.
The spline on both ends of the FFR axle are 29 tooth

Now WHY would Subaru do THAT?!? You'd think at least both inners would be the same, and both outers would be the same - even if the inners didn't match the outers... <face palm>

These new FFR axles... Are they the same diameter as stock?
Are stock axles prone to breaking or stripping out the splines with higher horsepower, like generally too high for our weight of car? I know VW axles would break when motors got turbocharged and drag slicks added.
Perhaps the splines are different so the outer splines fail before the inner (transaxle) ones do.
I see that there are "levels" for axle shafts from the Driveshaft shop. Most are Level 5, meaning they're meant to handle from 750 to 900 HP!
Is it a just a material difference, or additionally a diameter difference (and weighting more), or what, that gives them that rating? I wonder what's FFR's are designed for?

I broke an EMPI front axle on my 04 WRX with a stock clutch and only 225whp. (6k launch on HOT 275mm tires, my bad)

Things fail. We're hoping to get a spare set someday just to have for WHEN we snap one.
