Just don't see that much about FE's.

They do not come up to often anymore. With people getting the same power out of a stroker or coyote why suffer the weight penalty?

I'm in the early stages of such a build. I want a car that is as close as possible to the 1965 experience (acceleration, handling, weight distribution, etc) so I've got an FE, a toploader, IRS, 15" pin drive wheels, hydraulic clutch and (naturally) two four barrel progressively linked, vacuum secondary Holleys.

Penalty... Are cops giving tickets for big blocks now:D
I like most don't race but just knock around... I had a SB in my first car and it was perfect, almost. But everytime I went somewhere and popped the hood open, all I heard was something about it not having a big block.. so I swore if I ever built another it would have a boat anchor. HA... HA...
So, hopefully this year will be the year, one more time.
Going the 445 Barry Robotnick route, but I am going to fill one of my bucket list things.. building a motor... I guess a FE Stroker is a good place to get my cherry taken.

I have mentioned this here before but we are moving to the States late this year and I am selling my Canadian Mark4. I will be starting a new one once we get there and the decision has been made to go with an FE. I want the look, I want the sound and it is just right. So I have started and will continue to follow all that is FE in this and other forums.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but what exactly is an FE? A Toploader?

Just about to start the assembly process on a 390 stroker. Can't wait to hear it run!

Simply put, it's a big block V8.

The FE engines were a family of engines produced by Ford from 1958 through 1976. FE stands for Ford-Edsel. They're noted for having a deep skirt that provides additional strength. Sizes ranged from 332 cubic inches through 428 and the race designed 427 side oiler and include low riser, medium riser, high riser, tunnel port, and the most desired SOHC with hemi combustion chambers. All but the SOHC engines had inline valve arrangement.

The Toploader is a very stout 4speed transmission with the shift linkage located externally as opposed to internal on later model 5 and 6 speed transmissions.

Thank you, I don't think I'd ever find out this info if it weren't for this conversation.

The book How to build max performance Fe, by Barry Robotnik is the best one out there.
