Hello!

I have been told that Factory 5 will be releasing a "Slab Side" version - possibly even a replica of the 289 Competition Cars.
Is this true?26830

This is the body style I'm thinking!

Hey Al,

we are always working on projects here at Factory Five, which makes my job very exciting when i can creep into R&D and see things other guys are dying to know. from my experiences here, it takes us a few months into a project before we release any information (such as the Hot Rod magazine edition Hot Rod). From what i see in R&D right now, its more based on this special edition hot rod, and future options for the 818. this does not mean that the slab side or FIA will not ever happen ('hell its one of my favorite body cars), but i have not heard or seen of this yet.

thanks! Joe@FFRTECH

Thanks Joe,

I'm finishing up a tube chassis IMSA Datsun 240Z GTU car (408" SBF, 5spd Tremec, full cage and C4 Corvette suspension) and looking forward to my next project.

Do what I did, buy a mk4 less the body, sidepipes and roll bar and have Bruce Chervenak put one of his 289 bodies on it.

There is too little interest into the 289's (thank God), that keeps them pretty unique. I think the 289 owners like to keep it that way:)

The pics above look like the FIA to me, not the slabside. Do you know why I don't have a FIA? Because FFR doesn't make one! If they were available, that's what I would build. I LOVE the FIA shape!

Well, I'll go on record (yet again) to say that if FFR would introduce a 289 body (preferably a slab side), it'd probably be my next project.

What is a slabside? Was there a 289 with wide arches like a 427? I need educating!

There was the slab side, comp cars, FIA, and USRRC. Google each and notice the differences

At the risk of oversimplification (because there were a number of subtle, and not subtle, variations within the different model groups):

It's been announced that a "New Model" will be introduced at open house. The Hotrod Magazine '33 is debuting at HB.

The new model that we introduce at our Open House in June will be both a completed car and it will be in production, which means that we've been working on it for some time and we will be ready to build and ship production kits of it on June 14. I'll probably announce it formally in a month so that people know what we'll be showing at the open house and won't feel that they missed an opportunity by us keeping clammed up for too long. I will tell you that the car is very very very period correct... and I wanted one as soon as I saw the base shape out of the brand-new mold. HB will see the unveil of a "special edition" 33 Hot rod designed and built with the guys at Hot Rod magazine.

The company is literally two years old as since the buy-out it is fundamentally better in every single way. My focus is on executing on our plans and making sure that we build reputation more than we brag reputation. This new model will make a lot of you guys happy and I am proud of the team fro keeping their heads down and tools running. More soon.

Okay, that settles it... where's my checkbook?

I'd like one of these:

And I will make it look like this:

Gumball I read this "very very very period correct" the same way you do. My guess is that it will be one of the narrow cars. This makes a lot of sense. It's 90% a body change and maybe a little mechanical although it could be just narrower wheels/tires. So fairly easy for FFR to do.

Although I'd prefer a slabside with wire wheels, I'm guessing they're thinking FIA due to the similarities in track width to the 427 cars. The wider flares and rear quarters on the FIA body would most likely work better with the current chassis, rear ends, and steering components than a narrower body.
