I need to put the body on for some fit and finish. Will it go on with the side pipes on?

If it is a MK IV, no...need to remove them to allow lower body flange to flex out around the chassis. Can't speak to earlier models.

Exactly right. If a Mk4, no it won't. Probably would on early Mk's, but I never tried with my Mk3. They're easy enough to take on/off.
