I'm trying for the period look on my MkIV. I'm committed to the 15" 427 S/C pin drive wheels and am leaning toward using the Avon CR6ZZ tires. They're available in 225/60, 225/65, 245/60, 275/55 and 295/50 sizes. I would appreciate some overall car pics from anybody running these tires on their roadsters (and the sizes being run, too) and any comments on them would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

JohnB,

I asked this same question several months ago and the response was very limited. I too have been very interested in putting the AVON'S on my MkIV build and probably will. It seems AVON'S are highly recommended but very few actually have them on their Roadsters.

They are very pricey which turns many off and the tire sizing is not perfect for FFR Roadsters. 295/50R15 (diameter 26.95 in) will fit the rear on 3-Link Setups. I suspect it will also on the IRS Pin Drive, but I do not know for sure. The front size is potentially problematic.

I have been told the max diameter for the front is 26 inches. You also prefer the front and rear tire Diameters to be the same or very close so that the car runs flat or level. A little higher in the back seems to be acceptable.

245/60R15 (diameter=26.7) good match to the rear diameter but bigger than the recommended diameter for the front.

225/60R15 (diameter=25.7) fits the recommended front diameter but a bit small in diameter for the 295/50R15 (at 26.95).

As another option, the 275/55R15 diameter is 26.7 inches and matches well with both front options. I do not have the diameter size for the 225/65R15 in my head but any of the dealers who sell AVON'S could supply that info. The other forum list a common dealer for the AVON'S just not appropriate to name them here since not a supported vendor.

Now having said all that the AVON dealers have told me, they usually put on 245/60R15 (front) on the "other replicas". I believe there is a good chance they will fit on our roadsters as well. It is possible they may require some modifications to the front aluminum wheel splash guard to prevent rubbing with turning. This would be the panel that closes off the wheel well and attaches to the F-Panel. The bigger front tires will stick out more than the recommended 235/60Ri5 tires and some folks don't like the look, but then again the Goodyear Billboards bulge out in the front. I like the "beefy" look.

It will be interesting to see what other's have to say.

Here are some other tires you may like. They have gotten good reviews in the past. 26x10 front and 26x12 rear

JohnB,

I guess I can say it - I get paranoid about the Vendor rules.

Check out AVON's website for tire spec's. Their website will list dealers in your area. Also, give Roger Kraus Racing on the West Coast a call for more Info. You can google him.
