Hello 818 builders. .
Those of you in here from the Subaru world likely already know of Turn In Concepts, but for the new guys here’s a little bit about us.
Turn In Concepts is a performance shop located in Cincinnati Ohio that primarily deals with turbocharged Subaru's. TiC started out as the brainchild of Tony and Clint, two self professed car nuts and tinkerers, in early 2005.
The company started small with only one product, but like an avalanche starting with just one snowflake, TiC grew at a tremendous rate in product offerings and services for the Subaru community.
Since the start of the company TiC has manufactured many different parts for Subaru's as well as partnering with other industry leaders to address improvements to the cars as a system.
As TiC grew they turned to more and more racing to support customers whose desire was the track. In that TiC developed one of the fastest Subaru track cars in the country, driven by Tony Wiesenhahn.
They have taken many victories over the years in what started as a mild track car to what is now an extremely capable track monster. TiC’s experience in setting multiple track records and bringing home many podium finishes has afforded them the knowledge to help you conquer your local track or street.

While TiC started modestly they have grown to the point where the company is now housed in a 13,000+ sq ft facility that offers everything from parts sales, engine builds, dyno tuning, suspension setup and build consulting.
You can check out TiC’s shop out here:

With the introduction of the 818 TiC has been getting so many enquiries from those of you building the car that it came time to become active in this community.
What you can expect from TIC:
Suspension consulting for your 818
Experience with the donor parts and upgrades for them
Engine and transmission builds
Relationships with industry leading and innovative parts suppliers
Custom tuning on virtually every ECU available for these motors on their in-house dyno
If you need help with upgrades for your build please do not hesitate contact us.

Turn In Concepts is local for me. I have used them over the last year for all my Subaru Autocross needs.
I have gotten a lot of advice from them over the last 6 months. They will be doing my Dyno tune when ready.
Great people to work with.

I've been watching for any of our vendors to come up with some standard exhaust solutions. I know that there are a million different variations and many will do their own thing, but I would think there would be a market for some basic off the shelf choices for us builders that are keep things pretty stock and straight forward. Perhaps two choices, one emissions compliant and one not. As a resident of an evil state that requires OBD2 emissions testing, I'd like a nice exhaust that has a high flow cat and a moderate muffler that will keep the OEM ECU happy and leave space for a trunk.
Personally I'd like either a single 3" pipe coming out through the rear mesh next to the tranny, or two smaller pipes coming out under the cut out portion of the bumper below the mesh (like the pictures of the red FFR car). The second option might be a problem for those planning to use the rear diffuser, but I don't know how many people that use the diffuser will want an off the shelf exhaust.
I can get either option done locally, but getting the car to them means trailering it since I can't put it on the road until after it's registered. It would be awful nice to have a bolt on solution.
Anyway, there is some food for thought for you and the other vendors.

I'm definitely interested in an exhaust solution. For me, I'd like a downpipe with O2 bung 4"-5" from turbo, followed by cat ( removable? ) , followed by muffler ( ideally resonator+muffler in one - Aero Turbine AT3030XL? ) , then out to underneath the mesh or through it. Reference this photo (https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/DSC_9398-694x413.jpg) : If it comes out through the mesh, it would be nice to have dual coming out, one on each side of the license plate. If under the mesh, a single horizontal tip coming out centered under the mesh would be nice, dual coming out as shown in the photo would work also.
If this is something that could be offered, I'd probably jump at the opportunity.

As a resident of an evil state that requires OBD2 emissions testing, I'd like a nice exhaust that has a high flow cat and a moderate muffler that will keep the OEM ECU happy and leave space for a trunk.I'm 99% certain that you can pass emissions without a cat. Here in New York, the key pass/fail criteria is that the ECU doesn't throw any emission related error codes. It's fairly easy to disable the cat malfunction code and pass an inspection.
As for the legality of doing so, it's my understanding that you are legally obligated to not remove any emissions equipment that comes on a vehicle. Fortunately, we're building a car. So, if we put it on the road without a catalytic converter, then that's how it was manufactured and that's how it has to stay. I think the only state that this isn't applicable to is California. If anyone has any better information, please share because I'll be starting my build soon and need to plan accordingly.

What if you don't use the OEM computer? It wouldn't match up for emissions anyway. The OBD2 port would tell the emissions checker that it is a Subaru, when in fact it is not. That would throw a red flag in their system and wouldn't pass using an ODB2 check anyway ( in Arizona anyway ) .. Are you required to have an ODB2 port, check engine light, etc? What if the car doesn't have an ODB2 port? Would they revert to a probe in the tailpipe and a visual inspection for a cat?
Jaime

They can't do that... a cat is only emissions legal for a car if it comes with documentation that it is appropriate for that model and year. I doubt there exists a cat that lists the 818.
I really don't think it's the shops job to check for a cat, just to check that the car has the equipment that was factory installed. A subtle but important difference. Anyone been through this yet in a state that hooks up to the OBD-II port?

CA is rough on SMOG inspections, No ECU codes and must pass a visual inspection as well, any signs of tampering... FAIL.
However, we have it easy for kit cars with SB100, an 818 should only have to meet 1960 emissions requirements. Every state is different, and you need to research what's required where you are. See here (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?4393-DMV-Vehicle-Registration-Information-Thread)for links to each state.

Bolt on bell mouth or divorced 3" downpipe for the 818? With cat and muffler? Yes, count me in! I'm aiming for relatively quiet with a muffler. Work is noisy enough.

We should probably move the discussion of state emissions requirements to the Registration forum. There are no general rules that apply in every state.

Did you guys measure to determine the 2" correction trailing arm is the right one to use?
I planned on using the 1" correction part in the S mounting location, with the rest of the rear suspension in the R location.
It doesn't make sense on my application to use the heavier/more expensive gravel pieces. Ideally an oem length without the gusseting/thicker tubing would be ideal, I spoke to Mark at MSI last year about doing one in stock length and he said they could do it without the reinforcements but the tube would still be thicker, I guess they get them that way.

Two huge thumbs up to TiC! Great vendor. I bought lots from them over the years, from my Tic Tok suspension package, to Unabomber's Sexy rear end. ;)
Great company, great products!
Anyone seen the exhaust on the new Porsche 918 (http://www.2luxury2.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/porsche-918-spyder-back-view.jpg)? Looks interesting!

I noticed that on your page you have the 2" drop trailing arms listed. I know that a lot of analysis of the rear suspension geometry of an Impreza went into the design of those arms.
Is your assessment that the 2" drop trailing arms fit the geometry of the 818 specifically?
Or is it based on that, along with the other changes to the rear geometry that it is dropped 2" compared to a Impreza?
Same question for the bump steer and inner rear bushings. Do they fit because Impreza parts are used as the base, or do they improve the geometry of the 818 is its new suspension configuration?

I think they just posted some Impreza parts. I had the same questions. I'll know soon enough, just waiting to get my rear knuckle mounted, I have the measurements from MSI for all the arms.

You might want to run this by Jim Schenck, since he's the one most familiar with the 818's suspension design.
I'm guessing that a 2" drop arm made for an Impreza is not going to work well in the 818, as the R-car's mounting points already accounts for a 1" drop using OEM parts. I wouldn't think those arms will provide the geometry FFR planned around. So unless you're going to do a geometry analysis of the 818, I'd be wary of these. Then again, maybe you were planning on running another inch drop over the R-car...that would be a 2-3/8" ride height...
Best,

The bushings we do make not change to the geometry of the arms that you carry over.
Because of the changes in chassis and suspension setup on the 818 compared to the GD impreza I cannot tell you if they shorter rear arms will be beneficial. To do that I would need to be my hands on an 818 chassis and evaluate it.
