I'm having trouble locating all my OEM bolts, and its a PITA to locate replacements. SAE grade 8 is quite close to to Metric 10.9. 9/16 and 5/8 are quite close to M14 and M16 respectively. Obviously I need to use partial thread bolts to match the OEM, but what about replacing fine thread with coarse?

I looked around on Craigslist for a couple parts and stumbled on a shop that purchased wrecked cars for parting-out. They do a lot of WRXs. Anyway, they had a bucket of bolts from the last few WRXs, I negotiated for those while working on the price of the part. That bucket has come in handy. So, if you can find such a shop in your area, that could be of help. Start with Craigslist I guess.

I'm not an engineer. That said, from looking at the places where the OEM bolts are used, I just don't think there would be an issue with grade 8 SAE nuts & bolts. For "sheer" strength/resistance, I think you would want the appropriate partial thread (as you pointed out).

I think you should stay Metric as much as possible. IMHO the best bolts are ARP. I go to their website, find the bolts pack I want, create a list (their website does that) then either order thru my local auto parts store or order from Summit Racing. Summit has a distribution center that get's my order to me in 2 days. My local performance oriented auto parts store (Baxter) has some, but not many, of the ARP metric in stock.

Can't believe it is all that much trouble getting bolts in Canada. I believe Graingers is in Canada. MSC and McMasters here in US are better.
Best deal - Bolt Depot in Mass. NO MIN ORDER, fast, reasonable.
