Here's my question for you... Is it an Mk1 or Mk2???
The Certificate of origin is dated 02/12/01... Invoice # 13920
Vehicle number is FFR2574K
Can you let me know if it's an Mk1 or Mk2???
Thanks!

Your car falls in to that gray area of when the cars where transitioning from MK I to MK I.5 to MK II
Answer the following two questions (or post pictures of the areas in question)
Does the car have a welded in upper trunk bar that goes straight across, or follows the contours of the trunk opening?
Looking under the car at the transmission tunnel area, is there a set of cross bars welded in (also known as a backbone)?
Bill S.
Also, to add to Bill's comments, are the door hinges a fairly large single (or welded) piece of angle iron or two sets of curved metal?
We call ours a MK-1.5. It has the curved bar in the trunk, the MK-II door hinges but the MK-I trans tunnel (no cross bars.)

Let me help you. It's a Mark II. I had a Mark II and it was #2329. Yours (2574) came shortly after that.

My first car was FFR3154.
It had some of the extra protection in the footbox, but had the straight bar across the top of the trunk (that I cut out and installed a kit from Russ Thompson or Mike Everson to fix) and no backbone in the transmission tunnel.
People referred to mine as a 1.5.
One thing that gets confusing is the frame had one number and the kit/body had another number. The body/kit number is what FFR put on the MSO.

2639126390Thanks everyone for the quick responses. My trunk is finished off with carpet along with my door hinges too. The door hinge appears to be one large sold piece of metal.
The rear panel has a square metal bar about 1"x 1" with additional metal coming up curving following the inside of the trunk.. ... I'll jack up the car tomorrow and check out the transmission backbone.
I really like the car! I bought it this past September 2013 after first seeing it after the second owner just bought it (from the builder) back in 2002. I never dreamed back then one day I would own it.
The black round item in the truck is a bass unit the original builder installed in the car.
Thanks again for all the input!

Looks like a Mk1 Hans. That square vertical tube that the forward edge of the door hinge is attached to---is there a round tube running forward and down (diagonally) from the front upper portion of it to the lower outer corner of the footbox? That would be another easily visible Mk2 identifier.

Jeff:
When I called Factory Five prior to buying the car they described it as a Mk2... They told me to check a few things... Cant remember exactly what they said to check now...
Attached is a picture of my foot box area. It is carpeted as you can see. I did not see the additional round tube running forward and down into the foot box. See attached pic...http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=26393&d=1393033390&thumb=1&stc=1
When I bought the car the owner claimed not to know if it was an Mk1, Mk2 or what it was... I thought maybe it was an Mk1 but wasn't sure...

Here's a picture of the cross brace mentioned above. I had those supports, but still had the MK1 door hinges. They were making slight improvements and then when they had enough, they'd officially launch the new model. They did that with the MK3 too...I think they had what some called a 3.1...then the MKIV came out.

I don't remember the number of the first MK2. I remember a post on the other forum that had the differences...I'll see if I can find that one.

The picture you posted shows the cross bar of the MK I, no MK II or MK 1.5 came with this cross bar, sorry.

The first change at the MK 1.5 mark was the curved trunk bar to open up access to the upper rear of the trunk area, followed by the transmission cross bracing/backbone. Your car is a very grey area, and the person you spoke with at FFR may not have realized it is not just about the chassis number.

Yep, it's a Mk1. I don't see any of the changes that started getting incorporated into the Mk1.5 or "tweener" cars prior to the official introduction of the Mk2. Looks like a nice car!

Well I guess the verdict is in... It must be an Mk I. I am glad to know which model it is so if I need to get and model specific parts now.
I am very happy with the car... Fit and finish of the car, the upgraded components, engine, transmission, rear end, steering etc. I very much enjoy driving it...
Thanks again to everyone for the input.
