Engine and transmission cleaning, The best was ????

I expect to be taking my engine - transmission out of the donor later this week. The help I am seeking now is what is the best was to clean the engine and trans cases. TO get rid of the salt and pitting. Although I have been looking on line, users experience counts for more than product adds.
I don't expect to be shinny new, but look the best possible. Some pieces I will media blast and than SHARKHIDE to preserve. The fun continues. RLM
