Hi guys new by here

I'm going to be ordering my kit soon so I'm still planing

Going to use the 302 with the T 5 transmission and the 8.8 with 3:55 gear ratio

As far as building the engine I would like 400 plus HP what's the best compression ratio camshaft and heads to use I also would like to keep it EFI what's the best intake

Thanks

The Challenge car Trickflow Kit will get you to 330rwhp that will run and run and run and is EFI and the cost is under 3K for heads, intake (upper, lower), lifters, cam, valve covers, injectors, MAF, throttle body, etc.

I'm another Trick Flow fan. Built mine using their top end package of Twisted Wedge heads with upgraded springs, Stage 1 cam, roller rockers, intake and other bits coupled with 24# injectors, 70mm throttle body and a matching 75mm MAF. Great torque down low and pulls hard to the 6,250 RPM rev limiter.

Cheers,
Jeff

Trick Flow heads here as well (205cc CNC'd), Lunati hyd roller cam (.571/.587 lift, 282/290 adv dur, 112 LSA), Weber 48 IDA induction, 11.5:1 compression. I'm hoping to make 450 FWHP

My mk4 is running a 302 with a T5 and 3.55 Tru-Loc IRS.
I'm shy of 350hp, but it's a BLAST to drive.

Do it!

This is my first 302 (or Ford of any kind!) but I was pleasantly surprised with this engine design. Coming stock with roller tappets is one of the valve train positives. Usually you pay for upgrades like that. It's a solid performer with just mild modifications. The roadster performance numbers in the description of the MKIV on the FFR website bare that out. Mine is somewhere north of 330 hp (dyno to follow foar baseline). The T5 is holding up nicely and shifts very well. I have a 3.27 4 link at this time but will eventually opt for a 3.55 and modified 5 link (pan hard bar). But I've had more fun driving it in it's present configuration than I can even put into words. It only gets better! Good luck, WEK.

Note: Specifically, you want to get the compression to 10:1 but if you go much more you will have to run higher octane fuel. I have GT40p heads with smaller combustion chambers (58cc) and shaved so the compression is about 9.7:1 and it sounds like it too. The E303 cam is a good starting point for the cam. The aluminum roller rocker arms, upgraded springs, and push rods rounds out that nice valve train. So the Trick flow top end kit as already mentioned is a good way to achieve those goals in one step. It reduces the variability in the tuning as they know exactly what all the components are supposed to do from bench to actual race testing. But it's fun to put a combination together yourself if that's your thing!

Getting 400+ hp out of a stock bore/stroke 302 can be done but will require very good heads, lots of cam, compression ratio and rpm...not a simple and straightforward build and expensive. It will not likely be very streetable either. IF you are wanting to stay with a short deck Windsor (302), easier path is displacement...stroker 347. 400 + hp is fairly straightforward needing only 10:1 compression (premium fuel friendly) good heads (I prefer/am using AFR 185 cc Renegade, flow 297 cfm!) and reasonable cam. Max. rpm is 6,000 so forged rotating assembly not required. I did not have the engine run on the dyno but when planning the build my machinist laughed when I told him I was hoping for north of 350 hp...previous builds with the same components "blew by 400 hp".
I think that if you check with some of the forum supporting engine builders (Forte/Levy/etc.), you will find that 400 hp on a 347 is not hard to do.

If you are not stuck on a short deck Windsor, consider a tall deck (351), no stroker required or if you want more, strokers up to 427 and even 460 are now possible.

As the old saying goes, hp cost $$$, how fast can you afford to go?

Switch to a 351. Mine is from Engine factory and the short block is just a stock type rebuild w/ slightly higher compression pistons. The heads and intake are Edel performer RPMs and the cam is mild. it's a really nice easy to drive combination. Mine is the 2004 version of this

400hp is easier to obtain with more displacement, which makes for a more tractable motor and better torque in the lower rpms. That is a more usable envelope of power rather than the peaky small displacement high rpm figure that would result.

Sticking to EFI, watch the cam specs and choose one with at least 110 LSA to keep the air moving across the MAF. Low vacuum makes it temperamental, and EFI doesn't have accelerator pump shot to cover it up.

Thanks guys I'm going to go with the 347 stroker

Heres the way im doing it trick flow twisted wedge heads edelbrock rpm intake manifold 70mm throttle body e303 cam full roller rockers 35lb injectors and keith black .040 over hypereutectic high compression pistons you will need these pistons if ur running heads with a 2.02 intake as the stock piston valve reliefs arent bug enough this is a more expensive route but i have alot of these parts in my garage already so its cheaper for me i reccomend just getting a top end kit weather its edelbrock or trick flow by a set of high compression pistons and get all the proper machine work done slap a walboro 255 and the correct fuel pressure regulator with some 35lb injectors and the proper maf for those injectors tune it and you will not be dissaponted ull be spending around $3k for all of this but for the power thats the cheapest way to go and yes you will have to run 93 octane fuel but who cares its all about that smileage (:
