View Full Version : Headlight fitting?

I can't seem to get the headlight assemblies into the front bumper cover. I feel like maybe I'm overlooking something because I haven't seen any other threads relating to this issue. Before I grab my dremel and start clearanceing the bumper to get these to slide into place, are there any tricks to fitting them?

Do you have plastic or fiberglass buckets? JeromeS13 had plastic IIRC and had trouble fitting. Mine were fiberglass and fit well. I did need to clearance the front innermost corner where it meets the radiator opening on the bumper. Mostly just rouding off a corner. The front of the bucket sits underneath the bumper.

Yeah, I was having issues with fitment. I was able to slide them into the bumper, with a little tetris-like thinking... You'll have to slide them in from the inboard side - out.

I have the plastic buckets. I mounted them on top of the bumper, that's how they seemed to want to fit. I'll play around with them some more tonight and try moving them under.

Got them in. Installed everything from underneath. First I hung the plastic buckets by their inner lip so they were sort of "hinged". Then I lifted the headlight into place. And then I swung the bucket up and worked the rest of the tabs into place. I mounted my plastic buckets "on top" of the bumper cover; I thought the edge of the buckets looked better than the edge of the fiberglass. The headlights are wedged in so tight there is no need to bolt them down. I can't move them and lifting up on them picks up the whole bumper cover. I threw a plastic clip in the top mounting point just because it looked like there should be one there, but I did not mount the lower hole. It looked like adding one there would just distort the plastic bucket anyways.

Hope that helps someone else.

Top mounting hole of the light bolts to the front subframe if thats the one you put a plug in.

Would you guys mind taking some more detailed pictures of your gaps for the headlights/bumper/fenders/hood? I'm STILL trying to get these things SOMEWHAT decent... Maybe I'm just completely ignorant when it comes to fitting the body, but I can fit my finger into some places...

Did you shave the fenders and bumper at all?

Thanks!

I smoothed out the fender bumper interface where the two bolts go. Dont remember exactly what I did but they didn't fit tight straight from FFR. There's lots of "force it into position and then bolt it down" required. Not a huge fan of that since it stresses the fiberglass. Not sure how it will hold JP long term to vibration and ck stand stress.

Not really... :-/ There's up to a ~ 1/2" gap in some areas...

I'm not even close to mounting the body. I have no idea if the way I did it is going to work or not with the fenders and hood.

Has anyone been able to get the plastic buckets to work?
