FFR suggest mounting the box for the Electra steer to the frame on the inside of the engine compartment. I have extended the wires and plan to mount it somewhere under the dash. This way it is of harms way from ever getting wet, and still have access to it if needs to be replace. I would love to hear from others who have done this and to see how they mounted it under the dash. I was going to make a plate to mount to the frame and then mount the box to it. The way I am thinking of would put the bolts on the firewall side and may be difficult to get to with the body on. I have seen others do this, but I cant seem to find pictures of them on the threads.

Any pictures or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charles

I got the inner firewall aluminum from Mike (he is one of the supporting vendors) and mounted mine to it as well as my MSD ignition box.

X2 like Doug, used Mike's inner dash, mounted my Summit Ignition box, starter solenoid and Steering box on mine.

Just an FYI. I've talked to Electra about water proofing and their comments were that you need not worry about it. These are constantly used for the large UAVs and other than being submerged for long periods of time, they've had no issues due to water. Still, mount it wherever you want it! It's a great solution.

Brent, Just a quick observation. Based on your excellent photo, one of us has the inertia switch installed wrong... Per the build manual photo, the red button is facing down, while your photo shows it installed with the button facing up. Is there a reason you installed it this way instead of the way it is shown in the manual? Don't know if it affects the function, but at minimum, access to the button for test / reset is much more restricted when installed this way.

Brent,
Just found another thread on the inertia switch. Seems both positions are OK as long as it is in vertical orientation.

Either would work as long as the red button is pressed in. I would recommend mounting it with the button facing up. When its facing down, if you hit some bumpy roads, it wouldn't take much for the little ball bearing inside there to bounce around causing the switch to de compress and in turn will kill the power to the fuel pump. By design, this is to be facing upward in the case of a roll over, the switch will activate and shut down your electric fuel pump.
