View Full Version : Gorgeous Day for a Seattle Drive!

So, my buddy was over this weekend from the other side of the state and was able to spend a little time with me today. Gorgeous day, and we buttoned up a few items on the car (putting in lock washers, nylocs, adjusting hood pins, etc). His Mark II build is behind mine, and he had not ever been "down the road" in one.

We finished up the punch list, backed it out of the garage, and I threw him the keys and said, "let's go!"

Him driving. Incidently, this picture is taken at the airport where another forum member keeps his airplane:

Pretty shot of Mount Si (right by North Bend):

Parked at the latte stand (because I couldn't reach up far enough to get the coffee!!!):

Love the shot of Mount Si. Bit cold was it?!

What's that sticking out of the dash?

Not too bad on the temperature! Seat heaters and heater full ON, plus hot coffee. :D

Cleco holding the dash on!

What seats do you have?
Seat heaters is a great idea. Can they be added to FFR seats?

Nice shots. I believe the cleco in the middle of the dash could raise some interesting questions!

Do you have a build thread?

Thanks,

WEK.

I've got the Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seats (love them!). They were the third set of seats I bought for it (another long story... ;) ). Over on the ffcars site, there have been threads on adding them to various seats. I started with the Street Performer seats, and I had found previous posts on it. I 'believe' you could make them work with just about any type seat. I have purchased these same heaters (WarmSeats I think (IIRC)? And Mike Forte sells them too) and put them in 3 different daily drivers. Involves removing the seat covering (hog rings in some cases), putting the heaters in, then reinstalling the covering.

Nice shots. I believe the cleco in the middle of the dash could raise some interesting questions! I've had that dash in and out so many times, I decided to cleco it until "final" install! (whenever that ends up being... ;) ) And, when I finally smartened up enough to use the cleco , I thought, "why didn't I do this a long time ago?" Instrument install, wiring, futzing with the heater plenum (North's Race Car A/C & heater that I fabbed up a custom plenum for). There are still several places that are temped in with clecos. I could do a "find Waldo" type deal with them! The top of the box in the engine compartment that houses the heater is held on with a couple, the front radiator splash panels, the small panel on the back of the tranny tunnel, etc. etc.

Do you have a build thread? No, I spend too much time as it is on the forums cruising around, deciding I "just need" that mod, etc etc. :) I've been itching so bad to drive it, I've been pressing hard to get the last few details done. Time to rack up some miles! I think if I put a build thread together, I'd never finish! Although I really enjoy everyone else's build threads. Picked up some great ideas from some of them.

Myself and three other Cobra regulars usually meet up and drive to Griot's the first Saturday of every month. A great place to meet.

Looks like fun! If you guys are getting together near the Tacoma area I would love to join. Didn't realize there where so many so close. I'm not close to driving yet but would join you. I'm in University Place.

I can feel your pain. I also took more time than the average build. Sometimes you just don't have control over that aspect of the project. But eventually a little voice says, "I have to drive this thing!!!". So a sense of urgency takes over. BTW: I never sat in a roadster until I had mine so I didn't even have a memorable ride to hold off the little voice. Now you have to use your will power to not drive it enough to work on it. I try to finish some things between drives. It's an enjoyable conundrum!

Good luck,

WEK.

Clecos in the dash! Been there, done that! I STILL have a few on my build, and the car's been painted for 2 years! As a matter of fact I finally riveted a few last weekend.

Gel coat runs rock! Thanks for the pics. You can NEVER have enough stoke with these cars!

:)

Sounds like a great plan! Saturday morns are "usually" spent waterskiing (year around endeavor), but on the windy days, a Griot's run might be just what the doctor ordered.

WEK, thanks for the thumbs up! Agreed, that little voice kept getting bigger and bigger...

David, great to hear! I've admired your BAT paint job several times in pics, and enjoyed your build story. Glad to hear you're still cleco-ing it in places!!! :D Gel coat it is for a while! Battle ship grey isn't the best color, but the driving is fun.
