I made a bracket today for the pair of Smiths watches that I bought from a guy in England a while back. Just a piece of 1/8" aluminum scrap with the two clips that came with the watches. I'm going to have it powdercoated with something called "black sand" for a nice textured finish, then I have to figure out where it's going to be mounted. Most likely, it'll end up between the lower dash support tubes on the forward part of the trans tunnel.

Hey Chris,
I know you're a big history buff on this era. Are you mounting the watches as a tool for track times and things like that since those were used a lot for racing? I don't remember ever seeing any thing like that on board the cars. Just curious. Thanks, WEK

Sort of a rally thing, but trackdays are a distinct possibility. I saw this original 289 car at Road America in the summer of 2012 and liked the look, but didn't want to drop nearly a grand on a fancy stopwatch. One of the guys over on ffcars turned me onto the fact that Smiths made timepieces "back in the day" and I thought they'd make a nice addition to my car since I'm using Smiths gauges. I was going to do just a stopwatch, but thought it'd look cool and give me a reason to actually have a clock in the car if I also bought a similar pocke****ch.
Here's the inspiration:

Yeah, that is inspirational! That's a pretty fancy stop watch don't you think? I like seeing the vintage pics to check out all the components. It seems like they vary from car to car. I don't think there was a standard layout or maybe those were likes of the particular customer or race driver. Pretty cool!!!!
Thanks,
WEK.

I can't believe what the filter blanked out on my reply in post #4 - should have read "pocket watch" I guess it didn't like the last letter of "pocket" and the first three of "watch" when they were together in one word. Go figure....
