I've been out and about quite a bit mostly around the local community. It's a snow bird/vacation town during the winter so you have to watch for people driving down a one way road on the wrong side in a giant luxury sedan. You get the picture. There are a lot of people who take notice and for one reason or another appreciate seeing the car. I've gotten interesting comments from older snow birds as we call them in AZ from "what's that" to "Oh it's your second child hood" (my response was, " No, I'm way past that stage").

One couple from Washington stopped and asked multiple questions. I was really surprised when the lady ask to see the engine!

Engine comments: "is that a supercharger or blower" referring to the EFI upper plenum.

I'm getting thumbs up from the bikers mostly. My car is louder than most of their bikes. Of course, the other hot rodders usually wave, too.

Last week was the best. I was at a gas station filling up and a biker gal walked by in her leathers and said, " I really like your car". Then a late model Corvette pulls up next to me and the guy sticks his head out and says, "that's a bad a** looking machine". It's a little rough looking with the hot rod primer but for those who like hot rods, they can appreciate it for what it is.

Dude... I so want to be you right now.

With my body out for paint and the last of the mechanical issues being done before I tackle wiring, I can just see the joys of driving on the horizon.

The cool experiences are just starting for you. Every trip in my Mk3 produced stories. There's a very long thread about the "Coolest things" but I can't find it now. This should be added to that thread also. Can someone find it and bring it to the top, please.

I think that thread of on "the other" forum. It was on the first page a couple of weeks ago.

If it's not raining in the Spring, Summer and Fall the roadster is my "run around" car for trips to the grocery store, hardware, bank, post office, wherever, anywhere and everywhere so it's driven a lot and encounters a bunch of people. Many comments of "nice car" or "what is it". Some people take a guess; MG?, Jaguar?; Viper? (I found that one kind of amusing!). It used to be that those who recognise it as a C-car would most frequently ask "Is it real?" but over the last 3 or 4 years that has changed to "Is it a Factory Five?" more often than not. Good job on the marketing FFR!

A memorable one from a couple of years ago; I was loading groceries into the trunk when a lady well into her 70s pulled into the space beside me. As she got out she said "Cobra, I'm impressed". I replied that I was impressed that she knew what it was. She said "Oh, I know, I used to drive one" and proceded to tell me that when she and her late husband got out of college in the mid-60s they bought a wire wheel slabside, white with red leather. She drove it more than he did using it as her daily transportation "until we started having kids"! She said she loved that car and it broke her heart when they sold it.

I've had more kids sit in it than I can count. I'll often come out and find a Mom &/or Dad and little boy or girl looking. I always ask the little one if they want to sit in the driver's seat for a picture. I had a Mom ask if she could get a turn one time---of course I obliged!

Cameras stuck out of car windows in traffic are the norm, as are horn honks (which is kind of concerning at first but after a while you realize that people are just acknowledging you, not warning you) and thumbs up. I took a friend for a ride last summer and he asked "Does this happen all the time?"---"Yes"---"Do you like it?"---"Not really"; attention was not my motivator for building the car but like it or not it obviously comes with the territory.

My observations regarding the thumbs up type recognition from other muscle or sporty cars; bikers---always, vintage muscle cars---always, Porsches---almost always, Vintage Corvettes (C1-C3), almost always, classic hot rods (pre-1948)---almost never, Vipers, late Corvettes (C4 and up) and what most of us would call "Ricers", virtually never (and in fact many make an obviously conscious effort to look away which I find tremendously amusing!).

Cheers,
Jeff

I think my favorite comment was by the young man Dynotuning my car who was grinning ear to ear while working on it.
"we don't see many old ladies in here with cars like this."
He was smiling and bless his heart he meant it as a compliment. I thought it was hilarious
I thank my dad for taking me to the races, drag strip, and car shows from an early age. I am a true gear head.
