So my artist friend came up with the picture below. Before I go ahead with digitizing it
into an embroidery file, what's the verdict? Would anyone be interested in this on shirts, etc?
It will be set up so I can change the color of the car at will. Not sure about including the
dark area under the car but I can easily add it or remove it. We can also easily add your
forum handle, chassis number, etc underneath, opposite chest, sleeve, whatever...

Is this embroidery only? I imagine it would be a smallish piece on the chest pocket area? I'd like to see this made into a full size screen print on the front of a Tshirt.

I like it. The shading under the car would look better on a t-shirt like Mechie3 said, but on the back of the t-shirt with 818 on the front pocket area. You could put it even on a flex fire cap with 818 on the back. Button down and "polo" style shirts for sure. XL please...

No other input? Is it a matter of people not liking the design or no interest in
having shirts/jackets/etc made with this type of design?

I love your products, and have a number of your shirts, hats and even a jacket with my Coupe on it.
Comments on the caricature for the 818:
-take a little of the bow out of the top of the windshield frame
-tuck the rear tire flush with the fender (normally works well to have it hanging out, but isn't consistent with the image of this particular car)
-maybe add some black to the front of the hood vents, or don't bring the vents quite so far forward
-on the front tire, I think the line between the right edge of the rim and the right edge of the tire needs a tweak to the left
As for the apparel, you'll be challenged to satisfy such a diverse group of enthusiasts for this car. Many of the early adopters are admittedly the more mainstream Factory Five audience, but the real buzz and future of this car will be in the hands of those in their 20's and early 30's.
Factory Five did a good job with their new 818 shirt: it's black, the graphics are stylishly difficult to read (why is that a trend anyway?) with just a splash of vibrant color, and the image of the vehicle is in an unexpected spot (on the hip). The younger crowd will buy shirts and hoodies (but maybe not jackets) and are very particular about the style of hat (snapbacks instead of ballcaps).
I hope that helps!

Since you asked, I'm not a fan of the artwork - no offense intended to the artist. It's well drawn, but I think it's a bit cartoonish. That works OK for a Roadster because that car has a long established history of performance, and its performance is well understood and respected by anyone who recognizes the shape. This isn't the case with the 818.
I would be interested in something that is more aggressive/edgy, and that relays/implies the car's serious performance and capabilities.
I hope that makes sense.

I like it! And I'd be interested... the first time I checked the thread the image didn't load for me, now I can see it. I agree with all of Dan's comments above, and will add that, to be really picky, the brake calipers should be a bit higher, and only 4 piston, not 6 like it appears, and ideally, the tires would have a more 'modern' and aggressive (directional) tread pattern, think Toyo R888, BFG KDW, etc...

Why not have your friend draw an "edgy" version then post them both and run a poll to see which direction to go.

Why not offer both??

Of course, it's just a sewing program anyhow right?

Eh, I don't think the 818 shape lends itself to the same treatment as the cobra. JMO

I missed this. I really like it. As far as the shadow effect, it would be useful when printed on a similar color shirt. E.g.: red car on red shirt. Otherwise, not needed. I'd buy a t-shirt.

Agree with Wayne, I don't see this on a Polo but I think this would look cool embroidered on a flex fit hat. Maybe an 818 in the right font next to it/on the back.
I would fix the rear tire fitment.

I'd buy a Tee with this on it -- or maybe a hat!

I agree with Xusia. The cartoonish style works for the roadster but not the 818.

OK, my friend is doing some work on it, not sure what is meant by 'edgier' but he's playing with it...
He was also playing around and came up with more of a race version...

Ted, it's not letting us look at that file location even though you can probably see it.

I like the 818 so I want to comment even if I'm not building one. I believe the features of this car are more subtle than the roadster (unmistakable nose). It's harder to do a caricature of something that doesn't have a feature that can be exaggerated and still capture the essence of the image. I believe most FFR folks and 818 enthusiasts, especially, would recognize the cartoon but I don't think the average person would. Just about everybody recognizes a cartoon Cobra. That doesn't mean I don't like it. It represents good art work but I'm not sure it would fly in full production. Maybe a limited offerings like the hat mentioned with the 818 on the back would be better. I would add "818" in big letters in the background so nobody would mistake the image. Maybe in a couple of years, it will be easier to recognize at first glance. I agree with other posters about bringing the rear tire even with the fender and adding some accents to the nose on this one. Also, I don't know what edgier means unless they are asking for a more realistic version rather than the cartoon. Good luck on your design, WEK.

Here is the later version he had sent me, still working on some things but it goes along with some
of the comments about including the 818, etc... I can probably print these on white or gray
t-shirts and be able to change the color of the car... have to look into that.

Wayne, send me your IP address. Most likely someone else on your subnet must

I had no idea moving the rear tire in would make that much difference! That's pretty cool.

Just not a fan of caricatures.
Personally, I think they're more of a fit for something like a Pinto, Chevette, or mini -- ie something that is already laughable.

I like it, and would buy a shirt/hat, etc...
The only thing that bugs me, that I mentioned before, and maybe I'm being picky, is that tire tread looks like a vintage bias ply :(
A modern, directional tread would be much sexier, and fit the 818 better:

I'm with Turboguy. That said, it does look much better in the latest incarnation. On the fence as to whether I'd want one or not.
