I get my 818 April 12, 2014. The excitement is building. I have purchased my downer, a 2006 WRX with 27,719 miles, and have begun the disassembly. I never realized taking things apart could be so time consuming and difficult at times. The wiring scared the life out of me at first, but after reading the forum, and talking to Wayne at VCP. His wiring solution appeals to me, even if I have to extend my budget. I will continue spending a few hours each night reading the forum for now, but when the car comes there should be lots of questions. I live at the southern tip if the eastern shore of Virginia. I am always happy to talk CARS !!

How did you get a donor with such low miles? It should make a great 818. VCP is a good place for the ecu and harness.

I spent 5 or 6 months monitoring both copart and IAA auction sites as well as straight sales. I bid on a few other cars, with no luck. This one was a keeper, and I did what i had to do to get it. to my surprise the car also has a modified intake, ss headers, and ss 3" exhaust with NO cats. I am now trying to contact the original owner to get the full history. The 2nd party owner, a dealer had the car up for sale at $18,000. and had a interested party, so turned the car over to his detail man to shape up. The guy took the car for a ripping ride, spun out and went through a fence backwards, and in the process banged up all 4 quarters and 2 doors.
The car is a very strong runner, and all mechanical systems are fine after a test drive in town w/police approval. No plates or insurance, since its for dis assembly.

wow another one in Virginia. I guess I will be the last one on the block, as I don't get mine until December guess I just need to get on the move up list.
I am in Surry south of Williamsburg and there is another guy in Williamsburg who gets his in May.
Welcome to the forum.

My donor is coming along slower than expected, the cabin, dash, and wiring is all new ground. On the plus side the car is amazingly clean, even the under carriage thus making my parts cleaning time minimal. I will brake down my vision in two general sections. The engine, and the car.
My engine came with SS headers, 3" exhaust, blow off valve, and a larger air intake system = a pretty good start. I am going to add a lightened crank pulley, a killer B oil pickup and STI oil pan. Grimmspeed inter-cooler and "Y" pipe kit, ported intake manifold, ported tumble generator, and phenolic spacers. Than i will be getting a electronic boost control, and programmable ECU with VCP wiring salutation. The idea is to let the engine breath better, thus more HP without cracking the engine open or changing the turbo. More cooler air in is the key, and 3" exhaust lets it out.
My vision for the car is a little less defined, but here goes. Keep the white color for now and add some carbon fiber accent pieces and wrap, with gunmetal 17 and 18 inch wheels. Than to add a dash of color, red racing stripes and red seats to go along with the Subaru's red calipers, with slotted and drilled rotters.
I would like to add a VCP shift gate, leaving it open to view. I am sure there are many other improvements not mentioned here, but it is after 1:am and getting tired. RLM
ps, Wayne of VCP has been most helpful, and patient answering my questions on engine and his wiring/ecu replacement.
8:15 am - I just remembered, I reserved Va plate 818 TRBO that states what I have if you can get close enough to read it.

Sounds very much like my build, except I'm using blue instead of red (and the seats will be more subdued). You should check out my build thread for engine ideas. I just got done with it - literally!
As far as brake rotors go, you might want to re-think the slotted aspect. Most guys with experience will tell you they crack too easily. And from what I understand, the slotting isn't needed.
Have fun! :)

I'd like to hear from my fellow Virginians about how the registration process goes as you build these.
My build is a couple years out yet (we've gotta put aa gargae on the house first), and this is my one trepidation getting it legally registered in VA.
See you at VIR!
