Hello everyone,
I'm a 'new-guy' to the forum. I tried the search feature but was unable to find an answer to my question. Do any of you have knowledge of or have used a big-block Chevrolet engine, Mark IV or Mark V variety into the 33 Hot Rod ? I am currently putting together my order request and trying to determine if I need to allow for a 'new engine. The engine I'd like to use is the Ram-Jet 502
I am planning on using a T-56 (first-choice) or TH-700R4.
I can hardly wait to get started, any and all information shared with me will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm Big block huh? I guess if the Coyote fits, a big block should. The Coyote is huge.

I do not know of any big block Chevy's being used, but with determination anything is possible. Keep us posted when yopur build starts.

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your response. It was after I saw pictures of the Coyote that prompted the questions. As I have said it saves me the expense of another engine. I think someone has in fact responded with info, but please, in your travels if you find others please send me a link
Thanks again

450dude,
I am nearing the end stages of my order of the 33-Hotrod. My plan is to use the Mark V version of the Ram Jet 502 engine. I was wondering if you might have any other detail pic's of your engine install and any tips you'd care to share with me regarding my assembly. So far you are the only one I've scene to date, use a BBC power in a Factory Five 33-Hot Rod.

TonyD,
You have ~30 inches to work with across the back cylinders to fit headers on depending on how you set the height of the motor. You may want to get a used block and heads to mock it up before diving into a crate motor. Somebody has put a 392 Chrysler in one and those are actually wider across the valve covers than a BBC or coyote so it is very dependent on how you set your crank shaft centerline and header style. There used to be a company (P-ayr) that sold plastic long blocks for mock ups like that and they are awesome due to the light weight. look on EBAY for a used one. When I get my frame I will set a 460 ford, A 392 hemi, and whatever else I have that's big, in it just to have the information. I don't have a BBC setting in my pile, but I'm sure you could borrow someone's long block for a week to measure it up. I am probably going with a little Desoto hemi though just for the "theme" of the build I'm doing.
Good luck!

Thank you erlihemi,
I already have the Ram-Jet 502 engine, I just took it out of my 87 Blazer. I appreciate the spec's, I have the measurements of the 502, I could only (visually) approximate what the real width of the Coyote powerplant would be. To me, just eye-ballin', Im thinking the 502 will fit even with the 'tall' plenem and manifold. I have not finalized my order yet, and I have no idea how long it will take to get the kit together and ready to ship, things are moving kinda slow at this point. I have seen BBC w/blower in a picture, so I'm sure I can get it between the rails.
Desoto, huh? 'I'm guessing '50's Fire-Power w/multi-carb, blown, injected.........whaaaaaaaaat?
Good Luck to you also, my friend. Throw up some pic's as you go.
Thank you
Tony

Don't forget the SKJ blown big block hot rod. I believe they extended the frame to make way for the zoomies:

Arrowhead..............
Thank you-thank you-thank you! I always thought it would, but seeing it makes me feel a whole lot better. I now have a 'few' more bucks in the budget now that I don't have to go to 'Plan-B'. Now I can proceed with the option details.
One last question, is anyone aware if any additional spec's are required with the kit order regarding engine application? I ask this because, in any other engine swap if a small block Chevy fit, then the big block would also. But since this is a 'frame-up' build, I would like to maintain a front-rear balance. If a 'spec' was available I would apply that to my order request, if not there is always fabrication, ( fab skills are OK, but my welding 'sucks').
Again thanks to all for your help, I'm gonna make my call!

Not sure what you mean by adding a "spec" to your order. Do you mean have FFR customize your order to work with the big block? They don't do that, if you pick an engine that is not on their optional mounting kit list, then you are on your own. Your only option is to pick something close to your build and hope you can reuse some of the parts and resell the ones you don't. You can ask for a credit for things you've not going to use, but it's usually not worth it and you can sell the excess parts for more money usually.

Thank you for your advice, Arrowhead,
I got the almost identical info yesterday talking to a gearhead with similar interest, (off-forum). He explained that that problem would be quite simple to solve, and cautioned that there would be other issues to address before I 'fire-up', and other things to watch for. I gotta check with local DMV and find what all I'll have to present when THAT time comes.
I appreciate your help, and welcome any other bit of info that you would be helpful.
I'll be listening.......
