Figured I would say hi here. I have been researching a car to restore or build for a while now. I had a 67 mustang that I was restoring before my world was turned upside down and moved to australia. Since coming back to the US mustang prices (my first love is always a 67 mustang) have skyrocketed and so I began looking into other vehicles. I looked at porsche speedster kits and hatted the use of VW bug as donor then into cobras but they get pricey fast and then I found a gem. The 818s. For a mere $15kish you can have a exotic looking car that you get to build yourself. score.

So now I am researching and lurking the 818 build threads to come up with a game plan for donor, parts and kit. Get a feel for what works, what doesn't. What improvements people make and that sort of stuff.

I hope to purchase my kit middle of this year and get the ball rolling before I take delivery.

As it sits in my uneducated builder mind right now, I am thinking 818s, non-powder coated (to have coated in my color choice).

I guess everyone has experienced disappointment for missing that dream restore at one time or another. Sorry. I know I did when I was about 17. Missed getting a 50s Corvette (scoop in the side) with no motor but everything else. That was painful.

BTW, you may have a surprise if you think you will score an 818 as soon as you are planning. It may be much further out due the limited production schedule and a long list of signed up buyers (paid deposit). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think it could be 2015 before you see your 818. But FFR has been known to do miracles so if you're lucky they will find a way to speed up production to shorten that lead time. Good luck, WEK.

Well the good thing is you have time to kill. I would recommend you find a 818 builder in your area and offer to help. The knowledge gained and friendships are priceless.

Post where you live. Welcome to the fold!
