Has anyone added an oil temperature bung to the oil pan? Can I purchase a bung and have it welded in?

thanks

I have done as you say by adding the bung to the pan. My current pan is from Canton and had a bung already available.

I just installed an oil temp bung in my FFR pan last week. I initially used a brass bung to accept the autometer sensor (1/8 npt). Unfortunately, I installed it on the back of the pan, which is where the drain plug is. Wrongo!! Upon fitting the flex plate, there was interference. AAAARGH! I had to remove the oil pan (drain oil) and install a new bung on the forward end. The second bung I made myself from cold rolled steel, which was easier to weld in.( I had to braze the brass one.) Either way it is an easy process as long as you don't have to do it twice like I did.

You can install a remote oil filter , you can plumb it into one of the ports on the adapter.

Thanks for the advice, I am going with the weld on bung since the oil pan is not on the engine yet.

Install it about 2" up from the bottom of the pan.

Can you explain why? I have to add one also and didnt know it had to be up that high.

Dan, its about 2". Thats nothing set in stone, that should put the sensor near the middle of the depth of oil in the pan. You can go where you like, but I didn't want mine too low to the bottom of the pan or too high where it could be out of the oil.

Yep - weld-on bung in a Canton pan here. Mine is on the rear of the driver's side "T" extension... away from any interference, yet places the sender squarely in the sump oil.
