View Full Version : Replacement Windscreen for roadster from FFR

I recentlly had to replace my windshield for the third time in a year. All glass came from FFR. The last replacement had a situation where the glass, as you're looking through it, shows what looks to be "clouds" between the glass. It looks terrible and is very difficult to photograph because the sun is in the lens. The other thing is the quality of the glass…It seems to be very sensitive to chipping and sandblasting then my previous replacements.
Has anyone encountered these problems? FFR wants a photo to prove my complaint as I am asking for a replacement screen + labor. At a recent car show I asked the person who installed the screen to look and verify my complaint, which he did (Hot Rods by Dean). Unfortunately FFR would not take his word for it. Let me know if this is just my luck or if it has happened to you.

Tony…due to the angle that the sun hits the windshield while viewing the clouding, it is extremely difficult to photograph. Isn't there someone here in Phoenix that you can use to verify the damage?
If it is verified do you expect me to pay for a re install? I'm sure the insurance won't. Let me know…

How about Gordon Levy?

I had a flawed windshield on a customer car I built. Not easily captured with the camera but I sent a couple of photos and they sent a replacement. Do the best you can with photos; maybe try different lighting &/or angles, from the inside, outside or ???, highlight the problem area if you can. Just send them what you can get and I'd bet having a third party look at it won't be necessary.

Good luck,
Jeff

Try either a dark or light background (paper, cardboard, towel, etc.). And, from different angles. Also, try in the dark, with flash.

I can try Gordon. He is a ways away from me though. I'll try the photos first. I don't hear any reply about labor to install new one?

I do not think labor will be covered, at least I never heard of it, its a kit with no warranty on labor

Reading Jeff's post he does not say that the "flaw" was the same as you are saying. What I believe he is saying is that FFR sent him a replacement after he submitted the photo's they requested. Your problem may not be easy to photograph, but give it a try with different backgrounds and lighting until you get one that shows the problem. I do not believe that labor will be covered, why not install it yourself?

Doug is correct. The flaw I encountered was not clouding but was with the plastic sheet laminated within the glass. They provided the replacement part, I provided the labor to change it.
