i dont know how feasable it would be but would be nice to have a removable, maybe fiberglass, top
that would keep out some of the air and sun on certain hot days.

Lots of people would like one, dont think anyone has done anything about it. I contacted a local F500 builder that has a local fiberglass guy make him racecar bodies and molds to see what his rates are.

My body contest submission had a few pages with this idea, it basically replaced the panel between the seats and trunk lid with a removable hardtop. I don't think it would be super hard to do, maybe mock it up with a wood frame and foam covered with body filler to help shape it and then pull a mold from it. I think Mad Dog may have posted one of my coupe/hardtop drawings in the contest submission thread. I tried to post my submission to my profile page, but because our internet access is dial up (ok everyone can stop laughing now) and the file is very large (just over 500mb), I can't get it to work. I did give the data file to David H at SEMA to see if he could do anything with it, he may have had the same problems I did with trying to post it -it was after all 35 pages long - sorry FFR, I got a bit carried away.

Thanks John

I'm going to check out the convertible top but would like to pursue a targa with soft top just spanning the space between the roll bar and the windshield. There is a thread somewhere with some stretched "bikini" tops that look very nice too. Almost everything has been flogged hard! ;-)

I was planning to buy the soft top, but I'd much rather spend that money on a hard top. <hint, hint>

If I had to make a guess. It would be a top could be made to replace the top panel behind the seats with the humps. It would use the same mounting points as the panel now And attach to the windsheild like the convertible top. This would be an easy way to have it both ways sorta like the 33, but better IMO. Maybe even the aftermarket could do this. I think it would sell like hotcakes. But till then I will most likely order the convertible top.

Personally, I don't see it as an either/or solution. By that I mean either a hard top or soft top. I suspect many people would like both.

For example, you keep the soft top on, or stored in the 818 during warm months and use it when it rains, or your passenger complains about the heat. ;-o) Then switch over to the hard top in the colder months.

I did this for years with my MGB and it was great. Hard top storage is a modest issue, but worth it.

I may have misjudged this, but I think it is a possibility for many.

Steve

Both have excellent points... :o bCouldn't agree more. I also may go the "buy the FFR top" route and go from there after. I also have a hard top to put on my 3 Miatas... so I can use one of them in cold w/hard top

The only issue with both is the cost. If cost were no object, then yes, I'd have both.

They still pay for plasma! I think you can give twice a week for 35-40 a pop... :p

Xusia-

Absolutely correct. I confess the costs for my MGB tops were for more modest.

I should have recognized that!
