Hi.
Villagehoppa started a thread asking about kit differences based on the doner that was being used. Got me thinking about the performance differences of those engines...

I'm very new to Subaru and the 818, so I think I have the displacements listed below correct, but maybe not.

So, back to my performance question: I know people go down the path of upgrading during the project. As long as the engine it out, might as well...
But lets say the stock engine with 100,000 miles on it is put into the 818. What kind of 0-60, 0-100 times could be expected? Top speed?

Thanks,
Doug

I'll give the 060calculator.com version of the answer really quick. All are based on 2000 lb curb weight (gives a little flexibility for weight of driver, fuel, etc)
2006-2007 2.5 Turbocharged 4.2 (230 HP)
2006-2007 2.5 Naturally Aspirated 5.2 (173 HP)
2002-2005 2.0 Turbocharged 4.3 (227 HP)
2002-2005 2.5 Naturally Aspirated 5.4 (165 HP)

I did a quick check against one other site and came up with similar figures. I would guess these figures are reasonably accurate (maybe a little high) assuming normal(ish) summer tires.

WOW. Thanks for the quick reply. That 060Calculator is pretty cool. Now I know why it's tempting to add 10 extra HP, maybe 20... and so it goes. But, even with the older 2.5 non-turbo, five and a half seconds is pretty respectable.

Thanks,
Doug

Good info Bill. Those look like showroom fresh HP numbers and Doug said 100k motors, so expect some drop (total crap shoot depending on condition of engine, turbo, compression, etc).

Still, a quick engine refresh/stock turbo replacement and you should be back at the original numbers. After (or before) that it really isn't much work/parts to get some headroom on the turbo motors (read on removing cats and reflashing ECU -$1000 gets you to around... 280HP).

Agreed. Thanks for highlighting.

I figured you'd see some drop in power from the age, but maybe a little free-up because of the exhaust and decreased parasitic drag of accessories. All-in-all, I figured it was best to use stock to avoid muddying the waters, but it would have been better for me to note that at least.

I agree you are absolutely correct in listing stock #s. Guestimating the losses/gains is black magic at best.

Why don't you include the STIs?

ej207 280 hp 3.7 0-60
ej257 305 hp 3.4 0-60

Don't know the model years for those.
