I have a couple questions about kit collection...

Based on what I have read there will be nearly 30 boxes along with the body/chassis. Will these boxes fit in the back of a Yukon XL?

My nearest border collection point is Sweetgrass. Do Stewart know somewhere there I can meet them for collection? They must have delivered there before I assume. Will they need a post code?

I can't drive to FFR to collect. From Calgary it would take forever, if not longer.

Thanks!
Ian

Ian, I've copied this thread into the Canadian sub-forum to give the Canadian folks a better chance to see it.

I am ordering through Al, but collecting myself. This saves crate cost, brokerage and additional shipping to Calgary.

I still need to know if 30 boxes will fit in the back of a Yukon XL!

Hmmmm.... a Yukon XL - like this? Basic kit fit with all boxes inside, with enough room for us to stop at Cobra Automotive (vintage race parts and prep place in Connecticut) to pick up a few more boxes and a fiberglass rear package tray (back seat elimination) used in the '65-'66 Shelby GT350. You'll have no problem with one of those huge trucks.

Ian I made the drive to the FFR shop from McMurray to pick up my kit. Yep....long drive, but we visited friends and family in Ontario also. Fuel cost on the chipped Cummins was lest than shipping costs to my door. The head gasket blew the budget. Haha... Touring the FFR facilities was worth the trip. If you have the "Whitby" Canadian components shipped, you should have enough room for the rest of the boxes in the back of your Yukon.

Thanks Chris & Dave.

Whilst touring the FFR facility sounds fantastic I don't think I want to make the drive! I'm pleased the Yukon will be up to the job!

You'll also have a roof rack, no?

We picked up my Mk4 using our Durango SUV and a Serpent Express trailer. It wasn't from FFR directly, but pretty close to them from the original buyer. It was only a few months old and in nearly the same condition as how they deliver it, e.g. body on frame with the aluminum parts temporarily attached and a bunch of boxes. We filled the cockpit area with boxes, and the rest in the back of the Durango. It wasn't nearly as tight a fit as I expected. You shouldn't have any trouble with your Yukon.

Yes I have roof rack - but didn't think that I could fill the cockpit! Think I will be fine!

Cheers

Here is a picture of the boxes that arrived with my kit. This was the canadian version so less boxes. If you are getting the completion from Whitby, it comes on about a half pallet but separate.

We drove down to Shelby Montana in the middle of winter and met the Stewart driver at a truck stop there. It was terribly cold and the hoist system in the truck had frozen up so four of us had to get the body and frame down from his truck onto the trailer. We packed boxes into the cockpit and under the hood, strapped them down and then put the rest in the back of the truck. Be sure you have all of your paperwork in order as the border agents can be real idiots.
Welcome to the fun.
