Recently I was cruising the Barrett Jackson website where I found something that caught my eye. It was one of the "Cobras" that was going on the auction block. It was interesting how they described the replica car. They called it a "recreation of a Shelby Cobra". They didn't call it a kit, project, replica, etc........
It's funny how word smithing can change perception of whatever it is we are describing. So from now on I'm responding to: "is it a real one" or "is it a kit car", etc....... with, "it's a recreation of a Shelby Cobra". That's giving the proper consideration to the original and describing the project accurately. Then if the person is really interested, we can talk FFR with all the particulars. It's not an original idea but it does give me a better into to my elevator speech on the FFR MKIII roadster.

Thanks,

WEK.

In the UK, where I am from, 'kit' cars got a bad press some time back. There was so many bad kits out there that made selling completed 'kits' a nightmare. Lucky for my I sold my recreation (Dax Cobra) to a guy in Germany.
'Replica' has always sounded less of a home-made bodge job to me! But I am with you on the "Recreation..." description. Think I'll use it too, when I eventually build one! Ordering this month - but that will be another thread!

cheers

When I got insurance the agent told me if its a kit he can not give it coverage, if its a replica no problem. So I drive a replica.

^This. Although when asked "Is this a kit?" I usually answer "It's a replica of a '65 AC C-word." I actually say c-word. When they start guessing what "c-word" is, the fun begins!

EDIT: Just kidding. Although I leave it up to you to decide which part I'm kidding about. :D

I usually answer this question with "Not anymore."
