Rec'd FFR MKIV #8219 last Tuesday at 6:45 in the A.M. and about a half degree above zero...Brrrr. Inventoried 27 boxes, and now waiting for a little garage space to open up. I had purchased a Roadster assembly manual about 6 -7 yrs ago, so I guess its time to start rolling. Hope the pics come thru, and arent to big.

Can't wait to see your progress. My kit is due to be picked up 4/5/14. What engine/trans/rear end did you do?

I went with the 8.8 rear from FFR with 3.55 gear, and for the engine and trans went to Mike at Forte's Parts Connection for a 302/306 at about 340hp and a Tremec T5 with hydraulic clutch. I was afraid of looking into a 427... Guess I'm getting old.

I am going with the Coyote, TKO600, and the 3-Link. I am also going to use Mike.

Congratulations on the delivery. I really like the pick-up truck pulling the trailer and the Mustang too.

Congrats! If you are a gearhead (which I believe 99% of the guys on this site are), you will thoroughly enjoy the build and pride of creation. The driving is an additional bonus! They are a blast and the 302 is more than enough for the streets! You still must be careful.

.... 302/306 at about 340hp ...

is 340hp at the wheels or crank?

That '49 International was on the trailer in front of my Roadster !! The guys from Heritage Transport were dropping that off near Port Newark in NJ to be shipped to Germany, and Stewart Transport was having truck trouble.... so I kinda lucked out being close enough in North Western NJ for them to tie everything together...

How's this for ignorant ?? I never asked. I assumed that was at the wheels...but when Mike calls me to tell me its ready, I'll ask...

I think you are going to have to update that manual. You probably have the same one I got when I built my MKIII. Your setup sound like it will be very spirited even with 340 hp especially with the 3.55 (normally bhp or at the crank is the hp rating when it is not mentioned that it is RWHP). Good luck on your build.

WEK.

I think you are going to have to update that manual.

If I could find that original manual now, I'd need a court officer to get back in to my (HER) house. Fortunately I did get new manual in one of the 27 boxes I went thru

Congratulations on your delivery! Where are you in Jersey?

That International is a great truck! Too bad they couldn't have left that too, huh?

Sounds like a great plan. Please keep us updated on your build.

Steve

thanks for responding, but can you give me a comma?

normally bhp or at the crank is the hp rating, when it is not mentioned that it is RWHP. 340 = crank

normally bhp or at the crank is the hp rating when it is not mentioned, that it is RWHP. 340 = wheels

so, 340 is crank?
I've been told 20% loss, so 275 at the wheels?

sorry if I'm still confused

Congratulations Fordboy! I know all about the cold weather delivery; mine arrived on a day when the temperature never got above zero and Stewart was delayed by about 24 hours when their truck froze up in northern Indiana.

The 340 that Ford Racing cites for the X302 is at the crank with no accessories. Not sure what induction system they are basing that on. I used that engine along with a T5-Z and 3.55 rear in a Mk4 that I built for a customer. It makes a nice streetable, easy to drive package.

It'll almost certainly be crank HP.
20% is at the high end of the loss range, you'll probably be a little more efficient than that.

Enjoy the build, sounds like the pieces that you have gone with are going to make an excellent, excellent car!

Congrats, but I want to see more of the short-wheel-base Mustang parked next to it! LOL!

I live in Morris County NJ, ...we like to say North West NJ but we're less than an hour from NYC.

Awesome, thanks for the response. I am very familiar with that area, spending my first 17 years there. Lots of friends, although sadly none that will admit it, still in the area.

Best of luck with your build!

Steve
